My wife and I went to this Restaurant the night before we left Italy. We saw the reviews and thought it would be the perfect meal to end an amazing trip. We were wrong, unfortunately.
The location is amazing a relaxing view to be let down by the service and general nonchalance of the staff. We both ordered the Bruschetta, an aubergine melanzane and the hot mixed food. Something simple and easy. We scanned the QR code pulled up the menu and translated it to English a handy way to understand the menu and appreciated it. When we went to order 2 staff approached us one with very little English and a younger member of staff who had a better understanding. This was a lovely touch and we thought that it would be a great meal because of the service to this point. From here things didn’t go well. When the bruschetta arrived mine was quite bland and the portion was huge, the tomatoes had little to no flavour or seasoning which was surprising from what we had gotten over the week usually everything was seasoned extremely well and if not, the ingredients tasted amazing without. Unfortunately, this was not the case I let it go as I thought this was just a base starter. When they cleared the plates, they asked if we wanted dessert, confused, we said we had another course and they shrugged took our cutlery and walked away. While we waited for the next course the staff milled about looking confused. A large group of government officials arrived, and it was clear this table took priority. Our next course arrived, and I received a plate of mixed fish just dumped in front of us and the waiter walked away before I could explain this was not what I ordered. I walked after the waiter and explained I didn’t order the fish and they shrugged and said it to the waiter who took our order and informed me that it was what I ordered, then just turned away. I went back to my table and was just eager to get out of there. The waiter came over and looked at his phone, where the order was and said yes, I had ordered the fish. I showed him on the menu what I’d ordered, which I’d shown him when I was ordering as my Italian would have butchered if I tried to say it. He again shrugged and I explained I didn’t want it and to just take it away. Every customer has value and deserves at least some respect. They took it off the bill but not a word of apology or anything more than a shrug of “ah well”. Hospitality is hospitality anywhere in the world, it does not matter the language or the time. If there was a hint of concern or care I would not have cared as much to write this. Every other restaurant we went to hospitality shone through and it was not the case here. Betty Bar up the road has better food, better service, and a better place to spend your...
Read moreLong review ahead - - - While the location is perfect, my experience was marred by the level of service and exclusion I faced. I entered when the restaurant just began it's business in the evening. While occupying the prime spot, I was told that it would be just for an hour. I could understand this situation considering I was just alone and to take a good spot. I immediately placed my order for half a bottle of wine with a side of Bruschetta. The wine was delivered immediately and while I waited about 5 minutes for the glass to show up, I hoped that the bruschetta would be served in a few minutes. Somehow, I felt ignored as quite a lot of patrons around me got their orders served immediately. As a single man of color, my thoughts immediately swerved to exclusion, a bit of racism (unintended hopefully). For instance, they placed some nice looking lamps on every table around me except mine. Back to the food, bruschetta as expected was served cold and was a hopeless thing. Nonetheless, I finished my bruschetta and just decided to leave. Although, I wanted to spend time eating a good seafood grill and dessert but this feeling of being sidelined just got to me and I decided to step out. Again, I waited for them to provide me with the bill to settle which took them forever. Just a very bad experience.
EDIT POST THIS OWNERS REPLY.
Would be nice if you don't lie. The wine was served by the colleague wearing spectacles who showed me the table and he wasn't of darker color. Also I mentioned unintentional exclusion. Here I am not playing any victim card , but even if there's only one person occupying table, the service standards need not fall to this low. Your reply shows a lot about your character. Good luck for your...
Read morePizzeria La Nassa is a restaurant on the port front with outside and indoor seating. It was packed with locals on our visit, and for good reason. The food was of a good standard and reasonably priced. Despite the name, they specialize in seafood with Italian flair and also offer a good selection of pasta and pizza. There was no paper menu, just a scan code, so a little hard for anyone who does not want to use their phone to view the menu.
The translations on the menu were also a bit hit and miss. My pan fried seafood turned out to actually be a tomato based soup with mostly squid and octopus with just one prawn and one langostine and a few croutons. Nothing was pan fried and the prawn & langostine were sadly like cotton wool, very over cooked.
The Pasta was was very tasty, but again had very little seafood and was under seasoned, requiring more salt.
The Pizza we ordered was at first missed off our order, so we had to ask for it twice. When it eventually arrived it was very good. I think my expectation of what an Italian Pizza should be like was a bit high. Ive eaten pizza just as good cooked at a UK street food venue or even in my own Pizza oven at home, but it was still enjoyable.
The staff do not speak English well, and the translations are poor, but overall the food was pretty good. The port location offers fab views and the wine was as cheap as water, so made the experience that much better. Sadly we did not get offered dessert as the restaurant was...
