Absolutely loved loved loved this place so much. My favorite place on Capri because it’s hidden and quiet away from the maddening tourist crowds, and the server is immensely kind and friendly, the place is completely unpretentious yet beautiful and comfortable, and … most importantly the food was so delectable. Every dish was complex, and possessed innovative twists on Italian classics.
My only regret is not taking a photo of the menu. Well we had some questionable food somewhere else the night before so we started light, one appetizer between us and two pastas. We ordered the grilled octopus to share, and they kindly split it in two plates for us before serving. Nice and crisp and perfectly roasted. The two pastas were chose were the one with a sauce made from pine nuts from the region, and a porcini mushroom number that boasted cacao nibs and something else pretty unexpected. It was so so lovely! I usually love a good variety but this time I stuck to my porcini mushroom number and didn’t really want to share. But the fragrance of the pine nuts from the other pasta made me concede a little of mine.
Now we were warmed up and superbly impressed by our first 3 dishes (oh I forgot to mention there were also hors d’oeuvre of perfectly breaded arancini and 3 types of tiny breads), we decided we needed more of this wondrous food. So we ordered another two pastas for the two of us! Even the server started chuckling. Tortellini in clam brodo with lime zest on the top to brighten up the seafood, and a rabbit raviolini. Delicious as well, but still my favorite was the porcini mushroom pasta with cocoa.
By the end, four pastas and an appetizer between just the two of us, at lunch time, I was too stuffed for dessert. The server was so kind and told us where we could go for excellent views without crowds, and we took a little short walk after and it was truly epic and completely deserted.
This place had the kindest people in all of Capri, and some of the most wonderful food as well. It will always have a special place...
Read moreIn Capri, an idyllic place, I liked it a lot. A friend had recommended this restaurant to us, and we have gone without thinking. We arrived a little late, 14.45, there were only two tables occupied, we have sat down, a man in a black suit has attended us, quite dry, and when I have told him that he was celiac, he has become impatient, asked about pasta without gluten, and after telling me twice "pasta" ,, "pasta", I have asked again what kind of pasta, and quite uncomfortable has gone to the kitchen to ask .... unpleasant sensation, has made me feel dislike. Not anything positive .. The foiegras good, but very scarce., And the normal pasta, nothing noteworthy, for the expectations we had, small and expensive portions. I do not recommend it.
No nada positiva.. El foiegras bueno, pero muy escaso., y la pasta normal, nada reseñable, para las expectativas que teníamos, raciones pequeñas y caras. No...
Read moreI am not sure how Da Tonino is a Michelin restaurant. The food and service were sub par and unremarkable. There were so many issues with our meal at this top-rated restaurant.
The food was ordinary and uncreative. In fact, I cannot remember a single thing that my dining companions and I ate. Nothing stood out.
The service was simply dreadful. First, the main waiter was unfriendly and unhelpful, and lacked any personality. The rest of the staff barely spoke and seemed to be going through the motions. Second, they served a corked wine (it happens) and when we brought it to their attention, they initially resisted and then when they agreed to replace it, it took fifteen minutes to bring another bottle of wine. We just sat there with our glasses empty. Third, they placed one of the risotto dishes in front of the wrong person (not sure how this happens in a Michelin restaurant!). It took them several minutes to realize that a dish was missing. They then told us that it would take 20 minutes to prepare a new risotto dish.
This restaurant is a 20 minute walk from the town of Capri. There are so many great restaurants in Capri that it is definitely not worth a 40 minute round trip to eat at this...
