I'm torn because the food was nice. I recently visited Le Camerelle with my wife for lunch, and while there were some positive aspects to our experience, the overall service left much to be desired.
Firstly, I would like to commend the hostess who greeted us upon arrival. She was very kind and helpful, ensuring we were seated comfortably. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant, and we found the seating arrangements to be comfortable.
The food at Le Camerelle was undeniably delicious. We enjoyed the flavors and quality of the dishes we ordered, which were well-prepared and satisfying. The culinary experience was definitely a highlight of our visit.
Unfortunately, our positive impressions were overshadowed by the appalling service we received from our waiter, who may have also been the manager. From the moment we indicated that we were not feeling well and preferred simple dishes and no drinks, his demeanor towards us changed drastically. It felt as if he considered us inferior, treating us disrespectfully throughout the meal.
What struck me the most was the stark contrast in his behavior towards the table next to us. It was evident that he showed favoritism towards them, creating a sense of discrimination that was difficult to ignore. The disparity in treatment was so obvious that it made us extremely uncomfortable.
To make matters worse, when we settled the bill and I expressed my gratitude very politely, he responded rudely by throwing the receipt onto the table without uttering a single word. This final interaction left us deeply disappointed and feeling unwelcome.
Regrettably, due to the disrespectful and discriminatory treatment we encountered from the waiter/manager, we will not be returning to Le Camerelle. While the food was enjoyable and the hostess was kind, the negative experience with the service overshadowed these positives.
I hope that Le Camerelle takes customer feedback seriously and addresses these issues, as creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all patrons is crucial in ensuring a memorable...
Read moreIgnore the bad reviews. This is a delightful place. After our first visit, we returned the following night. Staff are friendly and attentive, full of local knowledge. The food is good. Very good. Tempura cod is exceptionally delicious (lots of fish is frozen immediately it's caught, and during high season, it's necessary in lots of places, literally chill out) the ambience is wonderful in the evening, it's a great spot to people watch and quite intimate, even sitting on the street tables or booths on the opposite side of the street. On a warm summer evening, it's away from the crowds in the square and much quieter. Frida, the DJ plays some great music that's not intrusive and a wonderful mix of styles and influences that really add to the setting. We had two really lovely evenings here. The charge per person is to cover the cost for the bread and maybe a shot of limoncello. It is standard practice in lots of places in Europe. The 15% service charge goes to the waiting staff for having to run around trying to please everyone who probably won't say anything at the time, but come straight here and moan because its not up to THEIR expectations. Judging by some of these reviews there are some awful people out there that waiters have to deal with, People moaning about things so ridiculous (pasta is SUPPOSED to be al dentè, not boiled to a wet slimy string!) and so trivial, they deserve a medal. I think complaining about 3 or 4 euros and paying towards someone having a decent living wage while there's a worldwide cost of living crisis isn't much to pay. If you can afford to holiday in Capri, where the rich and famous have holidayed since the 50's, is it really such a huge amount to ask? It's famously a luxury destination, but people moan about the cost. Laughable. How do you think Capri coped during Co-vid? Did anyone think to ask the staff how they managed, being mainly supported by the tourist industry? No, I doubt any of you gave that a thought. Ignore the bad reviews. This...
Read moreThis was the worst restaurant I have been to in Italy. Both service and food were horrible. Firstly I sat down and the bus boy didn’t say a word to me and just poured me a glass of water and set the water on the table. I figured it was free since they usually ask whether you would like still or sparkling at all other other restaurants. Then he brought a basket of bread, the bread was so stale and disgusting it tasted and looked like it was sitting out (possibly being recycled) for the last couple days. And let me be clear that I was one of 4 people at this restaurant. During lunch time. I told the waiter that the bread was stale and he grabbed the basket out of my hands and walked away with out a word. Then set down a new basket with the same quality of bread. I ordered fried squid, and it mediocre at best, and two glasses of house wine. Then the bill came. Let mebreak it down for you... The total was $50, this was for an appetizer and two glasses of house wine. $6 for a cover charge, the most expensive I’ve ever seen in Italy, $6 for the water I did not order, also the most expensive I seen in Italy 15% automatic gratuity?!
I was shocked at these prices. I don’t care if we’re in Capri, I have never seen prices like this. What a complete joke.
When I told them I did t order the water and they brought it to me anyways, he said he took it off the bill. I looked at my statement later that night and they ended up charging me the full price... I unfortunately lost the receipt so I’m unable to dispute it. And yes 6 euro isn’t much but it’s the principal of it all. I’m disgusted with this place. You would think that a restaurant in Capri would have a higher level of service and standards....
