After dinner while coming home, my bf and I saw this place, looked nice to us and we decided to have a drink and dessert (just to note that there were many empty tables, we were not taking tables from potential clients that might want to eat). We sat, a boy came. My bf tried to order a rose, asking what kind they have, but the boy gave us a QR code and told us “look at the menu”. We looked and chose. After 20-30 minutes a server finally came. I ordered a soda water with lemon and ice. He didn’t understand me. I said “sparkling water with a lemon slice and ice”, he didn’t understand me and asked if I want a lemonade. I said “no. Sparkling water, lemon, like the fruit but just a slice and ice”. He finally said “ok”. My bf tried to make the order of the rose in French (seeing that English is not working). French was not a success either. In the end the server brought us half a lemon and the soda water, no ice, and some rose (he didn’t have the one my bf asked for, nor did he have the dessert I asked for, both from the menu, I have no idea why they wanted us to look at the menu as they had non of the things we wanted). Like 20-30 minutes later the server came asking if everything is ok, we asked again for the ice. We never received the ice cubes we asked for, nor did we see a server anymore. In the end I went inside to pay and this took around 10 minutes as the bartender (after hearing that I want to pay and asking the server what is the number of my table) had an urgent matter to discuss with the kitchen while the other servers were telling me to move all the time (I move left because they tell me to move and another comes and tells me to move right…). At one point I felt like I was fighting to pay and they just wanted me to leave… Everywhere else we have sat in Catania we felt welcome, great city, just not this restaurant. *Edit: my bf just told me he didn’t receive a rose either, he...

Most places in tourist areas don't care about food, they only care about money and getting tourists in. This place is different. They clearly care about the food they make. I had The Norma pasta both times as it was perfectly cooked. The perfect amount of al dente, the perfect amount of soft in the pasta. The sauce is a combination of several brilliant flavors. Aubergine and grated but not melted cheese top it off.
My wife first had the "PACCHERI AL RAGU’ DI SUINO NERO" and she called it amazing and addictive. It uses pig ragu and is very Sicilian in nature.
The second time, my wife got the carbonarra made exactly the way it is supposed to be made. She loved it. The portioning was perfect.
The first appetizer we got was the veal meat balls which are small, well priced and absolutely amazing. I thought about them for several days. When we went back the second time they had run out so we had the lazagnetta with pistachio. Also a small but brilliantly prepared and flavored appetizer.
The prices are great for the area and the quality and it's exactly the kind of food you need to try once or twice while in Sicily! If I didn't live on the other side of the world, I would be back twice a week!
Highly recommend! Don't get roped into a lower quality place in the...
Read moreAccogliente, vasta scelta di vini, cibo delizioso. Great wine selection, very knowledgeable personnel, great location, long open hours, great buffet. I ate there 4 times in 5 days. There is so much to like about doc. I have had a wine cellar for very many years. One of the things I enjoyed about talking to them about wine was that I could say, "Well, I already know that. Let's talk about XYZ instead," and it was accepted with easy grace. I learned a lot about Etna rosso from them, and, on my last night in Catania, they served me one of the most extraordinary red wines I've ever had: Statella 2016 Pettinociarelle Etna Rosso. The next day, before my flight, I went to see them and took them up on their offer "ship anywhere in the world," and ordered a dozen bottles. They were delivered to me uneventfully in the northwestern United States and are now in my cellar. The slender brunette woman who works there (perhaps Sofia or Sonia) is especially friendly and helpful. I also enjoyed several delicious lunches, but, lacking the appetite of most Italians, I usually only had a single course. They have a chilling device behind the counter, and if you prefer your red wine a bit less warm than do many Italians, just ask them to make it a bit cooler, and they will do so quickly. Two of my lunches were the chef's daily pasta special. He is talented, and his specials deserve...
