There are two. This is the one you seek. There is another business with the same name, a block and a half away, at Via Etnea 36. This one is old and famous and I really like it. I know nothing about the other one, but the family that runs this one says they have no connection with the other one. Order your pastry, fruit, coffee, whatever at the bar or counter and then sit down. I like the show inside better, and it is less beastly hot and humid, even at 0700. The coffee here is as good as coffee gets in Italy, which means very very good indeed. I had a simple cornetto, 2 cups of caffè Siciliano (espresso), 2 of the best fresh figs I have tasted in my entire life. These were green skinned with white flesh and pink pulp. I also had a ricotta cannolino, a tiny cannolo slightly bigger in diameter than an index finger, but shorter. I can't wait to see what savory selections they have later in the day. Italy has changed. So many Americans have made faces or worse at Italian coffee, that nowadays, even if you speak Italian, they make you specifically state that you want espresso not caffè Americano. To entertain myself when they do this to me, I order caffè Sicilino or Pugliese or Umbriano, depending on where I am in Italy. I noted with interest that the police paid for what they ate and drank, or at least handled money and receipts across the room from...

Great place for those who love sicilian cuisine.
Here you can find fabulous granitas, prepared and garnished with a sweet hot brioche. You would have an unforgettable experience: tasting pastries and the real sicilian cannolis! moreover the gastronomy and the hot dishes satisfy those who prefer salty tastes. The bar has one big hall with all the sweets in full sight behind the counter and a dehore placed on the elephant square, you can sit there watching the crowd passing by while trying a tipical cipollina. During the summertime ,because of the high temperatures it is better to stay inside the bar ,that is equipped with air conditioner. The staff is usually busy and the waiting time is very long but the waiting is absolutely worth the effort.Your taste buds will thank you!
I've found only one negative aspect; there is not much coordination between the staff ,for example sometimes waiters mix up the orders because they are in hurry.
Regarding hygiene, the toilets are clean and the tables regularly sanitized.
I truly recommend this place if you...
Read moreWe ended up here with a breakfast voucher from our hotel. We also had this place on our wishlist to visit anyway since it is quite famous in Catania. The variety of food and pastries was overwhelming, it tasted all very good. But as soon as we showed them this voucher we were treated as 3rd class guests. We were yelled at and were treated very badly by the staff in the restaurant and especially at the coffee counter. They expect you to understand what you need to do with this voucher and push you around without any normal explanation. With this voucher you apparently don't get service and you have to order at the counter yourself, how are we supposed to know this! We had to go back here 2 more days for breakfast and every time the service was very bad and unwelcoming. If you don't want to service guests with these vouchers, than don't offer them to hotels! It is really a shame since the food is very nice but they ruin the whole experience because of the worst service we had during our 3-week...
