Ah yes beautiful Cefalau, 24/25 degrees in late October, the end of the season. between Kalura and the main town, at the bottom of a huge rock with a lighthouse, lies a restaurant overlooking a marina. We said “yeah” why not, how bad can it be, we’ll it wasn’t bad per se, just Very Very Very Meh! Now the two of us are very easy to please, a bit like people going to see a comedian, we want to laugh, we got dressed left the hotel and walked here! Now all the comedian has to do is be funny. Sadly Instead of Eddie izzard we got jack dee. So Average food, large menu, about 4/5 pages of pizza. Other various courses and choices of meat and fish. We entered up a flight of stairs and instantly led to a table, menus plopped down and total silence from the waiter. Felt like I’d interrupted their staff gossip at the front door, we then sat down and within 5 minutes we had been approached twice to order, so speedy service one might think, alas no! I’m sure it was a ruse to get us out quickly or something. Turns out there was a soccer match playing. We did ask a few questions of our waiter who halfway through the conversation saw something shiney in the distance or something marginally more interesting happening elsewhere or just lost interest in our poor Italian and simply turned and left mid sentence. We Orderd 2 pizzas, bottle of water, bottle of house frizzante side dish and 2 coffees, 59 euro. Cost not an issue, I’d happily however pay way more for a memorable meal, maybe they should get rid of the coperto and make staff work for a tip! Soggy wet pizza very tasty mind but same as every other pizza I’ve had in Sicily, staff hugely disinterested in customers, no eye contact and lots of chatter (from the staff I mean) the restaurant was fairly empty at 9. Lots of Parmesan and aubergine everywhere. We were left to our own devices for the rest of the meal, and I abandoned all thoughts of dessert as the energy involved in getting a waiters attention just didn’t seem worth it. I Stood up with jacket on for 3/4 minutes in the middle of the terrace which was now empty at end of meal to see if I could get the bill, I eventually had to go inside where 5/6 staff were standing around having a chat, someone pointed over to a till where I went and the manager owner managed to give me the bill while watching soccer on his iPhone. Volume on loud, so if your looking for a place with Kids and lots of them on iPads almost like butlins for a birthday party. This is the place for you. Coperto was 3.00 for 2, non smoking restaurant. Nothing special for vegetarians. Wine by the bottle roughly 17-22 euro, I’m sure Cefalau is full of amazing restaurants with capable and affable staff. This, I’m sorry to say isn’t one of them. Skip unless starving another 15 minutes walk and your in the heart of Cefalau. I want to give just 1 star but as nobody actually shouted at me or threatened me with a knife I’m going with 2 stars. I can only imagine how busy it is mid season. With a country full of amazing street food and restaurants I’m safe to say I won’t be returning here … ever, and what’s more, I doubt they’ll ever...
Read moreAfter arriving at Blu Bay following a long day in transit travelling from Spain with our young children, La Travernetta was the first restaurant we came across when walking towards town. Even though they were still about an hour away from opening for the evening, the staff welcomed us in & made some pizzas for our very hungry and tired children, my wife & I then had some amazing pasta and wine, while our children enjoyed gelato, which was the perfect start to our time in Cefalu. We were really impressed with the friendly and professional staff who went above and beyond to make us all feel welcome, the food was fantastic and the view was beautiful. Thank you for for such a great experience, we...
Read moreWe were a table of 8 people We had 2 pizzas with seafood as starter (antipasto) and were nice. As main course we had pastas and one of as had another pizza, but they did a mistake with one pasta and we were eating after long time we finish arrived the pizza as main. We asked for some more breadsticks that never arrived. We didn’t eat all together. Well even if the food was not bad... a lot of problem with the service. They want to look as fine dining restaurant but they aren’t. The restaurant was suggested from the hotel as the best, and to go there we cancelled another...
