A really lovely hike when in Cefalu! It is quite steep but well worth the view! It costs 5 euros per person to enter and they open from 08:00-20:00 with the last entry being 18:00. I would highly recommend going early as it gets very hot and definitely bring some water and wear sunscreen. They have a sign stating no open toed shoes however I saw a number of people hiking with open shoes. I’d recommend wearing proper sneakers/ trainers as the rocks are quite slippery. You’ll get your ticket from a machine (which can only do 1 ticket at a time and only takes 5/10 euro notes or you can pay with card). Just remember to keep your ticket as you’ll need to scan it to get back out. There is a small stall just before you scan your ticket where you can grab some food and drinks and souvenirs. The actual hike is quite steep and some level of fitness would be recommended. It takes about 40 minutes to get to the temple and chiesa but the path is moderately easy. It has a magnificent view of cefalu and the ruins are lovely to see. They also have informative signs near important sites. If you want to go all the way up to the castle it takes about 2 hours. The castle has a really lovely view so it’s definitely worth it! The path is much harder to get to the castle (with lots of slippery rocks and quite steep and most of the railings are no longer in working condition) but I saw people of various ages and fitness levels managing it. To get to the castle: when you get to the first split in the path, go to the archeological site (turn left) and don’t turn right (even though the sign says castle). From the archeological site you can take the path to the castle. If you turn right at the sign at the first split you cannot see the path (not sure if it’s still in use) and you’ll simply have...

Unfortunately we had to go through a lady to get our ticket, there was no sign , no translation anywhere which I like to remind this is a tourist site were 80% of people don't speak Italian

The front desk lady was rude as! She yelled at people in Italian , rolling her eyes, talking to people like they were dog ! Those people , were trying to use the broken machine, as they didn't have change, however we could used our credit card. Her attitude was wrong if she can't stand working with people , well maybe she shouldn't working in touristic place. I'm giving a 3 star as they walk is great but would not recommend for people at risk when. It's hot as there is very little shade during the walk and it get quite high. However the view was stunning and the reminding of the ruin is nice but not much left ! I was also a bit disappointed as they was not much native plant except few tree, and manila all ground cover were fried or invasive weed which create erosion Finally make sure you're enclosed shoes as they lovely front desk ladies will...

La Rocca in Cefalù is absolutely worth the visit. This isn’t just a hill—it’s a steep, rocky limestone outcrop that feels more like a small mountain. The effort it must have taken to build ancient structures up there is impressive—some ruins are estimated to date back to before 1000 BC. That’s remarkable in itself.

The climb is steep and uneven, with loose stones and gravel, so closed, sturdy footwear is essential. Sandals are not allowed—and for good reason. Getting up is manageable, but the descent would be risky in the wrong shoes.

The entry fee is just 5 EUR, and they now accept card payments. The views from the top are spectacular, and the mix of nature and archaeology makes it a memorable experience.

Go early in the day if you can—there’s little shade, and it would be tough in the midday heat.

One caution: not ideal for young children. The path is steep, and there are limited or no safety barriers at the top.

A great mix of physical activity, history, and scenery. Highly...

We left around 11 in the morning, took 2 hours climbing and half an hour going down. Our physical shape was far from perfect (around 3/5 😅), so climbing up we took every opportunity to rest in a shade. Therefore advice: 1️⃣Leave as early as possible to avoid the direct sun (opens at 8 am) 2️⃣ BRING WATER, approximately 1 liter per person 3️⃣ Go up the green route, and go down the blue route if you want to see the archaeological site (nothing special, but there is a lot of shade, benches and a place for a picnic) * the green route has relatively frequent trees with little shade for regular breaks from climbing ** the blue route becomes very difficult at some point because the surface becomes slippery and dangerous (I marked it in red on the map pic) *** from the moment where the two roads join, and up to the top (castle), the road is steeper than before! Definitely worth it!! Good luck and enjoy 🍀
