Il miglior pasto che abbiamo fatto in Sicilia!
It was out of the main tourist area, about a 15 minute walk, but well worth it!
We stopped by the retail store in the afternoon to buy some wine. Andrea, a very helpful clerk, helped B with a wine suggestion.
On the way out, we noticed the restaurant space across the street. We stopped to have a beer. The vibe was so good that we made dinner reservations!
Andrea was our server as well. It turns out it’s a family run establishment— they all work there! Here’s what we had to eat:
Me: Caponata do Carciofi — artichokes, green, olives, capers, celery, fennel, onion Insalada di Pulpo — octopus, extra-virgin olive oil, lemon juice, parsley, black pepper. Oh, my goodness, it was so good! Andrea said his dad makes it.
The pasta Etna: unfortunately, I lost the ingredients, but it was a spicy dish and SO GOOD! I’ve been looking for a spicy pasta dish since we arrived in Sicily.
B had: Octopus salad: the octopus was fresh and the other ingredients enhanced its flavor. Octopus was tender & well-cooked.
Calamarata allo Scoglio — pasta with mussels , squid, and prawn sauce, tomato, garlic, parsley. Mussels were cooked perfectly, sauce had a slight spicy undertone. The flavor of the shrimp came through, and it was sublime!
Two gin and tonics: one with Etna gin, and one with Cinghiarfo gin. We have tried and liked the Etna gin. When Andrea suggested the Cinghiarfo, we jumped at the chance to try a side by side test. The Cinghiarfo won, hands down! We bought a bottle to take home.
A bottle of Terre Siciliane pinot Grigio was a refreshing white to acclimate our meal.
Altogether, our meal (not including the bottle of gin) was about €90. A bargain!
The ambiance was lovely, overlooking the ocean. Andrea and the other server (an aunt, we think) were friendly and attentive. Andrea’s mother rang...
Read moreOur night at the place started amazing, we had the perfect view and an amazing wine selection. But then the wine that we were brought was old, had gone bad and had a vinegar taste. Ontop of that the primo course brought to my father was not what he ordered and when he shared with the server that it was incorrect, he was then gaslit by the server, attempting to get him to keep the dish, and when he returned it to the kitchen for the dish he ordered, he was brought the wrong dish AGAIN after an additional 20 minutes. My mother was also originally brought the wrong dish but that was resolved much quicker. I found out after reviewing the menus that I was also brought the wrong entree. It seems as if this place has a bit of a disorganized tone. This is all something that can be forgiven and understood UNTIL there is an extremely rude and gaslighting nature in which it is...
Read moreTraditional cuisine with fresh fish and well cooked. la Trinacria presents itself as a wine shop (enoteca) and indeed they have an impressive collection of Sicilian and not only Sicilian wines. But their food is also authentic and tasty. The fish is definitely fresh delivered by local fishermen (as confirmed by locals). I signal the typical Capone, local fish that I had fried topped with onions “in saor” sweet-sour as we name it in veneto. But also the traditional pasta allo scoglio, fritto di pesce, all fresh and well done. All this by eating on the terrace in front of the sea and looking at the sunset. The young waiters Davide and Andrea were kind and competent, making us feel well served but also informed if not guided. So, if you are looking for a traditional cuisine, nothing too fancy but authentic and tasty, this...
