Capitan Drake — Restaurant in Como

We were in the Lake Como area and one of the people in our group of 7 arranged a fun, informative, and entertaining activity at Capitan Drake.

The entire time frame for the event was between 90-120 minutes.

We arrived and were greeted by a young lady named Sandu. She spoke fluent Italian and English. She had the table set up for our party of 7, and had us captivated with her knowledge of wines and delivery. I know it definitely takes a special person to get in front of people you do not know, have the ability to stay on task and message, take adhoc questions and answer them confidently.

If you haven't guessed, this was a short class on wines, wine tasting, what foods go well with the wines, and at the end there is a NO pressure option to purchase some of the bottles you just sampled, and/or have them shipped to your house (for a fee).

In our two hours there, Sandu covered 2 white wines, and 3 red wines. She was really good with her detail. I thought the environment very pleasant and the light foods that accompanied the wine to clean the palate were perfect.

Just know this is not a dinner place (or at least we did not eat dinner), but is a place to try wines, bring a book and read while having a glass, and just enjoy the atmosphere.

We definitely had a fantastic time and enjoyed it our wine tasting event, and Sandu's humor.

I hope that if you decide to visit this place that your experience is as memorable and good or better than mine.

I cam across their wine tasting on TripAdvisor and had the pleasure of trying a selection of wines, including champagne, white, rosé, and red, accompanied by a delicious platter of cheese, ham, and bread. The champagne was a fantastic way to start the tasting, with its refreshing taste and light bubbles. The white wine was smooth and easy to drink, with a subtle sweetness that complemented the cheese perfectly. The rosé was a standout for me, with its light pomegranate notes that added a touch of elegance and sweetness to the tasting. And finally, the red wine was the perfect way to end the experience, with its deep, rich flavor that lingered on the palate. Overall, the wine testing was a wonderful experience that was made even better by the delicious food pairing. I would highly recommend it to any wine lover looking to explore new flavors and enjoy a lovely evening...

Got to have 4 glasses of great wine. The whole experience was great value and very interesting. Dave, was patient and great English (as we don't speak any Italian! Sorry!) We were also given a mixed board and some bread and each was advised which paired best with which wine. There were so many wines in the place I wish I had asked for advice on a bottle to get!

It was a nice communal table event and we met 5 other people and the whole evening went really well. Only downside is it closes at 8 but thankfully Dave didn't kick us out!
