This is a very pricey three star hotel. The location could not be better and it is truly a beautiful, historic palace. However, these features did not offset several significant drawbacks. ||There is no reception. We arrived in the courtyard and there is not a sign in this residential building. It took us 20 minutes of wandering around and yelling “hello” into the garden. Staff eventually emerged from the kitchen where they were hanging out when we telephoned. ||Check in was a hassle because they denied receiving my three emails advising them that our adult son would be with us for the first night which is why we booked a triple room. The manager, Elena, was quite perturbed and was fixated on proving to me that the emails were never received rather than moving forward with the simple solution of making up the third bed and charging us the fee. ||Julie was extremely kind and sat down with us and gave us useful information.||The breakfast was nice as promised, but, keep in mind, that it is just an elaborate continental breakfast with standard fair from any buffet stretched out: Coffee/juice, cold oats, fruit, bread, yogurt/toppings, cheese/prosciutto and biscotti/tarts. ||We were woken up all five mornings by a dog barking because the building is shared with residents. We asked Elena if it could be helped after the second morning and, when it continued and got even earlier and more persistent, we raised the issue again towards the end of our stay, and she advised us that she told the owners repeatedly - The point being it wasn’t her fault.||Finally, we appreciate fancy/modern architecture, but the room was simply uncomfortable. The tiny metal staircase was difficult to navigate. We liked the spacious luggage area, but the bed loft was cramped as was the bathroom. The upstairs was very dark with minimal lighting and unlit steps.||Housekeeping did a great job.||It’s definitely unique, but we wished we had only stayed a night or two to...
Read moreWe had a great stay in our room, La Scrustada. Large bedroom, 2 full beds which were comfortable (wasn't sure if a king room bed would be big enough). Excellent bathroom, one sink but other stands to place toiletries. AC was fine. Quiet, although, our room was on the courtyard, so you hear the clinking of plates at 0700 as they set up for breakfast. You're up, but breakfast doesn't start til 0800.|Nice breakfast with some interesting choices. |We came on a national holiday and market day, so we couldn't drive to the hotel. We had to park at the municipal parking garage (which you would have to do anyway) and then take our bags to the hotel. Fortunately, it was sunny, because no Uber or taxis were available. After 4 connections and cancellations on Uber/taxi, we decided to walk.|After the parking hassle, we had the hotel arrange for a private driver to take us to the dock at 0915, for our 7 hour private boat tour with Lake Como Water Taxi.|Cristian met us in a BMW 7, and was great. He met us at 1630 when we returned. Highly recommend using him. Boat tour was great as well. No lines to wait on, faster than a ferry.|The room pictures are nice, but the actual room is better than what you see.|Our friends stayed in another room and didn't hear the breakfast set up. They really like their...
