For context I feel I need to share how much 8 nights cost us. We paid £2909/€3361 plus flights & spending money.||||We booked 6 months in advance as we were visiting to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, we advised of this during booking and politely requested a quiet room with nice view if possible.||||We selected this hotel after months of research as we were under the impression it had air conditioning and with our trip being in August this would be important to us. We also understood this hotel spoke various languages which is always helpful when our Italian is basic although we do try!||||Upon arrival we were allocated room 101, the sleeping area had been modernised however the bathroom was tired and in need of some TLC, it was also dirty. We advised the reception staff we were not happy about this and they advised to speak with them the next day and hopefully they could change our room. The second day was our anniversary and we certainly didn’t expect the situation where we would still have all our belongings in cases and be between rooms, reception advised they wouldn’t be able to move us until late morning. We headed out for a walk to try and relax when we received a phone call almost summoning us back!! When we returned, to avoid further disappointment we asked if we could see the new room prior to moving all our things, room 202, to which we were met with a negative attitude, this attitude was a common theme throughout our stay! Room 202 was cleaner and the bathroom more modern so we accepted and moved.||||It became very clear though into our second night that the room was VERY hot after all it was 34 degrees Celsius outside! We searched for the advertised air con unit and nothing, only what looked like a thermostat at the door reading 19 degrees, we now believe that was underfloor heating and yes set at 19, each time we turned it off it would come back on.||||We approached reception asking for a fan, we were advised one would be left in our room. Upon returning from walking all day in the heat, no fan! More attitude as we asked again. Shortly after the fan appeared. So to highlight there is no air con even though they advertise in tripadvisor and their own website that they have it-see photos!||||The food was boring, often bland. We paid extra for half board. We did in fact eat outside the hotel for 3 nights because of this and the terrible customer service on offer. There was only 2 members of staff who spoke a little English, the rest avoided our table at all costs! The meals were devoid of any vegetables, we had to ask for a side salad to ensure we were eating veg. One night they had sirloin steak on the menu to which I asked for mine to be cooked medium and hubbys well done….they both arrived rare!! I decided I couldn’t eat mine so pushed to one side, 20 mins or even more later the head waiter appeared asking why I hadn’t eaten it and when I explained why his response was rude and dismissive. From this point until we left, he never spoke to me again! ||||The breakfast was sufficient to get you out for the day but we did notice lots of pre packaged food in plastics/jars etc and also noticed this in our room. Plastic water bottles, toiletries. ||||After 3 nights it also became very apparent that the town’s recycling facility was located directly across the road from the hotel, locals in and out all day but at 6-6:30 each morning the local council would uplift this recycling…….. bottles!! The crash of hundreds of bottles into a bin truck is the last thing you wish to hear on your holiday. I should also point out this hotel is sandwiched between two very busy roads (day & night) and I order to keep the room cool we had the window open and it felt like the traffic was coming right through the room.||||I took the time to email the hotel and express our disappointment in our anniversary trip to which I have not had any acknowledgment or response from. Well over 7 days ago! ||||Think long and hard before booking this hotel. Maybe it used to be good but it certainly didn’t feel good for us. It wasn’t budget, it cost us a lot of hard earned money and a celebration that we won’t get the chance to celebrate again.||||Please see...
Read moreThoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gran Baita on a half-board basis through a Tui ski holiday.
Room - our family room (for 3) was big enough and lots of storage, always clean and reset each day. Complimentary water in a small fridge. Tea and coffee making facilities (but no milk or creamer).
Spa - clean, relaxing, and well appointed. Robes, towels, slippers, and flip flops all provided.
Communal areas - always clean and tidy, lots of smaller areas designated for relaxing, reading, etc. Bar manager was on point the entire stay. Snacks of crisps, nuts, and breads brought with drinks in the evening. Drinks weren't inexpensive but comparable to anywhere else in the resort. Piano player offering entertainment each evening for pre or post-dinner times.
Restaurant - buffet breakfast was excellent with lots of choice, anything you could want for breakfast (within reason). Fresh cutting loaves could do with being replenished as often these were small end pieces left if you arrived a little later (maybe a mamma or pappa arrived early to make a sneaky takeaway lunch 🤷♀️) You also need to ask for coffees etc to be brought out to you, the waiting staff don't often come with this option, although it's not a problem at all and included with breakfast. Restaurant - evening dinner is a 4 course meal with a choice of 2 antipasti, 4 primi, 4 secondi and 2 desserts. We could always choose something we fancied, as could our 16 year old son, but he enjoys a wide variety of foods. We did see children being served a children's menu, so it might be worth enquiring. The food was delicious always.
Restaurant - staff were brilliant and more relaxed around us after a few days. They work very hard under the watchful eye of a Maître d’ who ensures everything is running smoothly and properly. We were mostly served by a young lady from Scilly who loves fish(!) we thought she was great 👍 but all the serving staff are very good.
Transport - nothing was too much for Marco, the hotel shuttle driver. Free shuttle trips to the cable cars at Courmayeur, Dolonne and Monte Bianco, rides into town and other local journeys. Excellent bonus, which was much appreciated by tired ski legs at times! 🌟
