Pizzeria San Benedetto — Restaurant in Desenzano del Garda

Sadly, one of the worst pizza experience in a while. First, the pizza was simply extremely bad. Even surprisingly so. It was raw on the inside, and at the same time burnt in the outside. I used to bake pizza, and that’s a symptom of either a wrong temperature in the wood oven, or mismanagement of the cooking. Ingredients are tasteless. Even as I had the Margherita DOC, mozzarella was tasteless. Tomato as well. And the entire pizza, completely lacking salt overall. In short, a bad pizza - even for the generally low standards you can get in Desenzano.

Adding on top, the place is hilariously managed. If you order a pizza for a specific time, you still have to “show up” for them to start baking the pizza. Or actually, for them to put you in the queue for that. The time you ordered the pizza for is completely irrelevant: you still have to show up and wait. What’s the point of calling in advance, I don’t know. If you instead happen to be willing to sit and consume locally, the process is also confused. And need to ask repeatedly (to different waiters), getting different answers, to be sit.

All in all. I have no idea how this place can...

The place to be if you want a fast pizza. The pizzeria is very busy and is obviously very popular. Thank goodness we had made a reservation two days before. After our arrival we found out that all seats outside were only available with a reservation, all those who came by spontaneously were seated inside. But even there was no more space after 10 minutes, so that many guests could not be offered a seat. For a brief moment, about 30 guests stood in front of the house without a reservation. The tables are also reassigned quickly, there seems to be a time window of 30 - max. 60 minutes. The result is a missing relaxed atmosphere. The pizzas are delicious and the price-performance ratio is unbeatable. The waiter was so friendly and brought us two "baby pizzas" when we didn't want a whole sweet pizza and also wanted another salami. My tip, make a reservation if you don't want a pizza...

My boyfriend hat to choose last nights dinner place. He decided because of the reviews - we walked there, a little bit further from the tourist area but ok. We made a reservation ahead, got welcomed friendly and were able to sit outside. The staff is very kind, welcoming and even speak multiple languages (engl., german🙂). We got in a chat with the table next to us and they (locals) confirmed, that this is the best pizza you can have in this area and tastes just as original as Neapels Pizza. We ordered 2 Pizzas, a bottle of wine and water and had a wonderful evening. The pizza was so good! We couldn’t resist of having a 3rd Pizza to share instead of Dessert 🍕🍕🍕 the table next to us left but invited us for desert what a nice surprised - so we also had to finish the Tiramisu :D it was such a great evening that we are definitely coming back when ever we are in the area again....
