Ristorante Rose & Sapori — Restaurant in Desenzano del Garda

I’m not sure what to think about this restaurant. The a la carte menu served on other tables looked fantastic. However the Meat Tasting Menu was peculiar.

I’m pregnant so I couldn’t have the tartare first course. Instead of being offered a meat alternative I was offered a cucumber & tomato salad. For context, if you can’t eat raw food but order the fish menu, you get seared octopus at the first course. So a basic salad seemed stingy and lazy.

Second course was asparagus panna cotta served with fried pastries and cured ham. The pastries were cold and soggy and the panna cotta a weird grainy mushy texture. I feel like this dish could have been simpler and better, because everything on the plate had the same cold, wet texture. Why cotta your panna if it’s not going to be smooth, fatty and unctuous? Overall it had strong church fete quiche vibes. The ham and asparagus spears alone would have been great.

Third course was just…strange. Two whole meal flour dumplings with a tiny portion of mince & gravy. Again, the texture of everything on the plate was mush.

Fourth course was good. Extremely salty quail that was juicy yet with crisp skin, a good sauce and charred endive. I feel like this was a sous vide triumph rather than a demonstration of great skill because the sauce was over reduced.

We had a fantastic dinner at Rose e Sapori. The view over the lake is simply stunning and the atmosphere is chic, with stylish design touches throughout the restaurant.

The food was truly exceptional, with a particular mention to the parmigiana di melanzane, which was a real highlight. Every dish was beautifully plated, and we were pleasantly surprised to find amuse-bouche and petits fours served.
