Tiny cosy restaurant, charming host, incredible food, nothing rushed or busy. We started with a collection of cheeses which I tried to rank in order of deliciousness but I decided they were almost equally great. (Even the ricola garnish was amazingly tastefull and quite possibly the best I've had) Then we had ravioli in truffle sauce and risotto which was good, but not super special. I gave the ginormous risotto mountain on my plate my best but my stomach did not stand a chance to the amount. My partner has not had beef this good in a long time life as it was very smooth and melted on the tongue. The charming host would watch me eat but apparently was afraid I would explode and conviced me to stop so I could taste the best pannacotta I have ever had since my existence. (And I have eaten lots of it!) Turns out the pannacotta was on the house as a reward for my commendable effort to finish my plate. 10/10 would eat here again, good example of florentine food. Only downside was that the host would take away our plates a tad bit too early and it was rather warm inside. But if those are the only downsides, you know this is a...
Read moreThe food was great, but want to focus on the service. Our son is on the autism spectrum, very high functioning, but with behaviors. If you have a child like ours, this review is for you. There is a member of the wait staff, an older gentleman, who treated us with respect, patience and understanding despite our son's obvious challenges with unusual smells and a lot of noise and movement. Turns out, he has an autistic son as well, so asking for plain spaghetti with olive oil was no problem; find him if you can. A number of times, our son jumped up from the table and ran outside to get away from something, and the staff took it all in stride. Bravo to them all!
For the foodies, you will find that quality of the food varies a lot, and often relative to how close one is to a major tourist attraction. Despite being a few doors down from San Lorenzo, the pasta is simple, fresh and flavorful. I opted for the pici, my wife the gnocchi, and our older son, the tortelli. It was all fabulous!
A big thank you to everyone there last night as you made traveling to Florence with our autistic boy an even...
Read moreMy American ignorance led me to believe that all Italian restaurants specialize in making a classic Italian Pizza, but I couldn't have been more wrong.
After a number of food tours and education from locals, I have learned that Italian food is extremely regional. Tuscany specializes in steak, pappardelle al ragú, and tripe among other phenomenal dishes, but not pizza.
I had been craving a pizza for the last few days, and even tried a few from some highly rated places in the area that left a lot to be desired. The Prosciutto was over-cooked at one. The dough far too dry at another. I won’t review them because I hate leaving bad reviews unless it is my civic duty to do so but eating at a place named "Mister Pizza" while in the heart of Firenze didn't sit well with my soul.
Il Nutino restored my hope, as it was the EXACT pizza I had been craving. Fresh dough, with the perfect amount of fluff on the crust and just quality ingredients. Paired with an Aperol Spritz because I am unhinged, but it was perfect.
This should be your go-to spot for Pizza...
