This is authentic Italian Gelato!
Trust me, it was very difficult to find a good gelato in Italy. My hypothesis is, since I was mostly walking within the touristic areas, I was subject to all the touristy gelato places, so, every time I tried any of them, It was totally meh. Nothing to be surprised about.
But then, in Firenze, I found this gem and I had my WOW moment as far as Gelato. Unfortunately, this happened the last day of my trip, so I was able to try only 2 flavors of them which I totally recommend: Fondant Chocolate and Pistachio. You can taste the texture which is very different from all other places, thick and creamy. It has a great balance between the sugar and the other ingredients.
Another thing is that the price is even cheaper! I am making the comparison with Amorino which is just a few blocks away. My summary for you in case you want to have better chances of experiencing authentic gelato is here:
1.- Not in the main streets or touristy areas 2.- It is never displayed uncovered 3.- No bright colors. This means they used additives. 4.- If the Sicilian pistachio is not with a yellowish tone, is not Sicilian pistachio.

Read moreMy husband and I have tried several gelato places in Italy including San Gimignano's "Best Gelato in the World". We enjoyed them all but both agreed that this was the best gelato we have tried so far. The Bergamot flavor was interesting but I really liked the Lavender and another flavor whose Italian name I can't remember but it was creamy with orange marmalade swirled in.
Just fyi, having the closed containers instead of gelato heaped in brightly colored piles to attract tourists is a sign of quality. Their gelato does not have additives or extra air in it, making it denser and creamier. The "melting faster" that some complained about is also a sign of this, that the gelato has not been pumped with emulsifiers. Gelato naturally melts faster than ice cream and even faster without additives. You're getting something more natural as well as more bang for your buck.
Regarding the service: The staff were polite,...
Read moreDelicious, traditional gelato — not a tourist trap stand. They don’t even display the gelato which proves that everything rests on the flavour, and it stands up to the challenge. I’ve been sampling dark chocolate gelato everywhere I go and this is probably the richest, least sweet one I’ve had yet — which is great. The Azteco with white chocolate and cinnamon is not something I’ve encountered anywhere else and I would highly recommend. Other members of my family tried the wild berry, melon, and bergamot and were all pleased. The flavours are listed in English and Italian, which is helpful. There isn’t as large of a selection as some other places, but I’m assuming this is because they serve more traditional flavours.
The staff wasn’t overly warm but it’s not a full service restaurant or anything so not a huge deal. Also may be a language thing. All in all, would recommend going here for a great taste of...
