Osteria dei Fiorentini — Restaurant in Florence

We did not have a good experience - a huge disappointment for our first night in Florence. We ordered the risotto to start which was very bland. Shared the Florentine steak - which just tasted like steak. Nothing special about it. But for steak itself it was a good steaks which is why I’m giving 2 stars. Perhaps the worst part was watching every table around us receive complimentary Prosecco and limoncello while we were ignored for 20 min after finishing our meal with empty drinks and our plates cleared. We asked for our check - finally giving up on the complimentary limoncello that we saw other tables receive - only to wait another 15 min before finally just going to the register ourselves to pay. To be fair the restaurant got pretty slammed at once which i understand, but we watched everyone else be waited upon with 2 servers while we were ignored for a long time. We arrived early (for an Italian dinner) and had exceptional service by Elena, who made our evening very special with recommendations for food and drink choices and was welcoming and friendly. She served us prosecco, vino della casa and limoncello to drink. We had the various artichoke (carciofi) as an appetizer and it was immediately evident that we had chosen our restaurant well. Amazing! Then we had the wild boar pappardelle and ricotta & spinach gnudi, followed by the fried chicken, rabbit and artichoke. In hindsight, I wish we had ordered the Florentine Steak instead or additionally. When it arrived for another table, we saw the care they take in serving and cutting it perfectly. Stayed in Florence for a few nights and wandered in here based on reviews, but they don't do the food justice. Fantastic wine choices but a more limited food menu, what you want in a place like this. Have the cheese and truffle fondue, it's just brilliant and I want the recipe. We also had a steak, 1.5KG of beauty. Another table had ordered steaks (we didn't know) and the smell was so amazing if we hadn't ordered we would have changed our order. Get the side salad and potatoes and an amazing bottle and just enjoy. Our friends never had cantuccini and vin Santo. Here the science of baking is displayed in their biscuits, we loved them.
