La Cocotte Bistrot — Restaurant in Florence

Wow! This was a complete meal experience and so enjoyable plus a GLUTEN FREE WIN! First of all, the service and the ambiance are excellent! From the moment we stepped off the street we received a friendly greeting from the host Valentina. The table we were seated at was a little close to the entrance and we could smell cigarette smoke coming in. We asked to move to another table in the back and they were very polite and accommodating. Our waiter Oscar was very helpful with the menu, and was very attentive and friendly the whole time. Secondly, the food was phenomenal, from presentation to taste, texture, and freshness, we were very pleased. This is our 6th day in Italy and this has been my favorite meal so far. My husband ordered the Mugello- a combo of bread, Ragu ravioli, and the Florentine steak with potatoes. His steak literally came out with a firework in it! Such fun presentation! I ordered the gluten free spaghetti carbonara and side salad and was so pleased! They also brought me a gluten free roll that was divine. It was served warm, and soft and chewy and so tasty. (Such a contrast to the dry crumbly stuff that other restaurants serve.) Often I feel like my gluten free meals are a sad compromise of the original dish, but that was not the case today. I felt completely satisfied and pleasantly surprised by this whole meal. Even the side salad was impressive. At the end of the meal they offered a complimentary drink, (which we graciously declined b/c we don’t drink) so they brought us a cute little chocolate instead! We loved every part of this meal. La Cocotte is my favourite restaurant in Florence! I first discovered it in when I was in Florence in 2016. I was very very impressed with the wonderful coffee, the delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The drinks and food are of an extremely high quality and are very reasonably priced. Tonight I had a very delicious legume soup. It was such a hearty dinner and very soothing. For dessert I had the tirimisu. It was without doubt the yummiest tirimisu I have ever eaten. It was light and fluffy and melted in my mouth. Apart from the quality of the drinks and food and the very reasonable prices, there are four other aspects I love about La Cocotte. The service is warm and friendly. The staff are polite, patient and everything is delivered promptly with a smile. I also really love the vibe of La Cocotte it is funky in a relaxed and welcoming way. I love the music and the warm lighting. The music isn't too loud so if you want to read or research or just talk it is perfect. I also love the fast free wi fi which is great for work and recreational purposes. If I could give this place 10 stars I would! I was researching the best Bistecca alla Fiorentina in Florence and this restaurant came up in my search. After reading hundreds of reviews and seeing the restaurant was within walking distance of the hotel, I decided it was worth a try. After being in Italy for a week and a half (traveling different cities), this has been by far THE BEST meal, we have had. The Bistecca alla Fiorentina (chianani for sure) was simply seasoned and cooked PERFECTLY. The side of ‘fries’ melted in your mouth, and our grilled veggies were a perfect compliment!! (The wine, Montepulciano, paired amazingly!!) I cannot express how this place has exceeded our expectations!! Our waiter Daniel greeted us with open arms, and spoke in perfect English (we were trying to speak Italian, I’m assuming we weren’t doing so well..).
