Ristorante Zanfa Bros — Restaurant in Florence

Dinner at the Zanfro Broz restaurant was fantastic. It was our first Sunday in Florence, and we stumbled upon the restaurant earlier in the day and enjoyed coffee - and learned of their specialties - fresh fish and pizza.

The staff was friendly and inviting, and our server at dinner surprised us with a taste of beef tartar that should win awards on its own. Our reservations took us to a cozy table with great jazz/dinner music that was doused occasionally with bursts of laughter from nearby large tables.

The starter dish we chose was tuna based on airy bread with a great ensemble of spices and toppings that left us longing for more. Then came our pizzas - large enough to share, but delicious enough to warrant having our own - in order to share! It took at least one piece to understand the flavor combination of meats, cheeses and mushrooms beneath the tasty dough. The crust is as good as it gets, and it gets anttention, almost as a dessert attached to each piece.

A long, hard-to-pronounce named dessert was recommended and didn’t disappoint - we wisely shared this, but easily could have savoured our own plate.

To top off the evening, we discovered the chef (a Zanfro Brother) was award-winning for his pizza creations and we can agree with the results. When we sent a compliment to the chef, he came to our table and expressed sincere appreciation for us enjoying his cuisine.

I’m very confused about this place. Honestly, the food is tasty. I ordered a pizza Margherita with burrata, and I really enjoyed it—thin crust, delicious fresh tomato sauce, and juicy burrata. I also had a tiramisu, which was quite good.

However, the timing and their odd behavior ruined the experience: I was given the check before I even asked for it because I was told I needed to vacate the table for the next reservation. Ironically, it wasn’t my fault. Get your coffee and be ready for the story:

My reservation was at 20:30, and I arrived at 20:25. They took my order at 20:40. My pizza was served at 21:18. Yes, 38 minutes later! (The waitress did apologise for the delay. So, I didn't see a big problem here) I quickly finished my pizza and ordered a tiramisu, which arrived at 21:39. By 21:46, they brought me the check and (kindly) asked me to leave!

In a cozy restaurant like this, you can’t expect customers to finish their meal in just one hour. At the very least, diners should have 1.5 hours to enjoy their experience. I wonder what would have happened if I had ordered another glass of wine. (I guess I had the right to order that)
