Great food and a real gem in the city. I stayed in Florence for 7 days, and this is the best one I got (I also tried the famous ones like Trattoria ZaZa, Trattoria Sergio, etc.).
My background: I'm an Asian immigrant in US and speaks only English. The shop owner is extremely friendly and my wife and I had an extremely pleasant chat with the staff. Here's what we ordered:
Pork Sampler of Four: This is Tuscany pork at its best - way better than the American counterpart. You really taste the sweetness and herby flavor in the pork. A sophisticated and delightful dish! House Tagliatelle with Traditional Style Ragu: Very different style from the Pork Sampler - this dish is warm and hearty. They add in a lot of spices (something that tastes like Clove if you're a westerner, and Start Anise if you're Asian) in the Ragu, and the Tagliatelle is extremely fresh. Dessert Sampler of Seven Sites Along the Silk Road: This is a dish that they update throughout time. As of the time being, I got seven deserts inspired by: Venice, Egypt, Persia, Madagasca, Indonesia, China, and Japan. Each dessert indeed captures the spirit of the origins. House wine and coffee: fresh and simple :)
Strongly recommended - though it's slightly far (probably 15 minutes walk from the city center spanning across Piazza Vecchio), definitely worth the...
Read moreLovely family place with open courtyard to dine out in. I'd seen recommendations so went there for my birthday on a few days trip in Florence. The food was wonderful, it was uncrowded and unhurried. The prices are so low as to be confusing and some of the dishes are good enough to be Michelin starred (I have eaten in Michelin * restaurants in London. I had 3 courses and the first was so good I didn't get a picture. Wild boar salami 'tartare' with mustard cream and chilli jam. I had the days special steak with truffles and the local lardon and the amazing desert. Spice Route..7 tastings of different regions Florence traded with. Going back tonight with luck!
Edit: Second time there..still glorious food, I wish it were local to me! went for the daily specials again as they differed, Chicken cigara with a mushroom and truffle sauce, use fingers but amazingly intense taste. Then Spaghetti (Tagiatelle ?)carbonara, again with truffles. Luscious. They make their pasta fresh and again the quality was superb, it's a rich dish but with the egg pasta and truffles just outstanding. Sorry for the superlatives but it was just a fabulous experience. The house red wine, I had 2 glasses, they don't serve others by the glass), is a lovely chianti and honestly its now my favourite restaurant. This is Italian, specifically...
Read moreWe walked past this restaurant earlier as it was very close to where we are staying and thought it looked 'interesting'. The menu was full of boar and beef and some other tempting dishes so we decided to return in the evening. We were not disappointed.
The setting is rustic, the menu is short but every dish was tempting. I started with the wild boar sausage, which is served raw, similar to beef tartare, with crispy bread and a hot, spicy sauce on the side. My wife had 'honey moon' which was a dish of melted pecorino cheese with truffle oil and honey. For the main I had a sliced sirloin steak with myrtle and covered in wafer-thin lardons. My wife had a cheese and mushroom risotto. All were fantastic.
The service was perfect - friendly and helpful but not intrusive. At the end, the chef said that the coffee was on the house and, as we left, the owner gave is a local amaretto schnaps.
Impossible to fault and, together with a bottle of decent white wine the bill was...
