I usually refrain from writing reviews, but my experience at this restaurant in Italy was so utterly disappointing that I feel compelled to share it. The establishment presents itself as an upscale venue, with a spacious, aesthetically pleasing interior. However, the lack of customers should have been the first red flag, and for good reason.
Upon being seated, we were handed menus, but to our shock, no one came to take our order. After waiting for an excruciating 30 minutes, we flagged down an employee who casually informed us that we needed to order at the counter near the cashier. This crucial detail was not explained, leaving us to wonder how anyone is expected to know this bizarre and impractical system. In a restaurant that attempts to look fancy, it’s absurd to expect customers to leave their tables and place their own orders.
When we finally approached the cashier, the experience only deteriorated. The cashier spoke no English—a baffling choice for such a role in an international destination. Communicating our order became a frustrating ordeal, exacerbated by her unprofessional and disrespectful attitude, which seemed to be a trend among all the staff.
After another long wait, we were served our drinks—warm, flat beers in plastic cups. The audacity to serve such poor-quality beverages in this manner is disgraceful. We then waited an additional 30 minutes for our food, long after we had finished our subpar drinks. When the food finally arrived, it was the wrong order. Instead of rectifying the mistake with any semblance of grace, the staff had the nerve to blame us. Eventually, they offered to redo the order, but by that point, we were already exhausted by the incompetence.
Some of us had ordered "wagyu" burgers, but it was glaringly obvious that what we received was far from authentic wagyu. We chose not to make a fuss, as we simply wanted to eat and leave this nightmare of an establishment. While the food was decently presented, the staff threw the cutlery onto the table with blatant disrespect, and when we tried to ask for napkins and ketchup, they ignored us. To add insult to injury, they informed us that ketchup was an extra charge—a ridiculous notion in any decent restaurant.
The issues didn’t stop there. Portions were inconsistent even though we ordered the same dishes, and despite the menu indicating that drinks and sides were included, we later discovered this was false. Hidden in fine print at the bottom of the menu, it stated these were extras that had to be specifically requested.
Adding to the list of absurdities, the restaurant only operates from 7 PM to 10 PM, offering a mere three-hour window for dining, which is extremely limiting for potential customers.
In conclusion, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever endured. The service was appallingly disrespectful and unprofessional, the food was far from what was promised, and the entire operation felt like a scam. The only redeeming factor was the ambiance, though even that was marred by a poorly curated, mismatched playlist. I do not take writing reviews lightly, but this experience was too outrageous to ignore. Avoid this place...
Read moreAfter a lot of changes at the "Mercato del Carmine" I think this is the best establishment so far to occupy the old market's space and I would highly recommend it. You cannot beat the price/quality of this place in Genova. They have burgers, pinsa's (think of it as a genovese style pizza but it's not a pizza), steaks, etc. Their meat is very high quality, they are fast (no table service, you just pay and they call your number when it's ready) and everything is delicious. They have indoor and outdoor space and everything is really well organized covid-wise. We were a quite large table (10people and kids) and everyone had different meals which all of us liked. Great use of the space, low prices and great quality and taste, will...
