Rollipop Bistrot — Restaurant in Genoa

Honestly, this was one of the most uncomfortable restaurant experiences I’ve ever had. The place was nearly empty when we arrived, so it wasn’t about being busy — it was about the way we were treated. Right from the start, something as simple as asking for a small water turned into a long, unnecessary argument. Instead of listening, the waiter kept pushing and questioning us in a way that felt rude and dismissive.

When the food came, it didn’t get better. The rabbit dish was cold, and when we asked to have it warmed, the waiter made it seem like we were bothering him. The salad was delayed, and instead of serving it with the rest of the food (we had ordered everything to share), he told us to “finish the pizza first.” On top of that, he muttered things under his breath in Italian that made the whole interaction feel hostile.

I couldn’t shake the feeling that the way we were treated wasn’t just bad service — it felt like there was something personal behind it. As a gay couple, we felt judged and unwelcome, and that made the whole situation even more upsetting.

The pizza itself was great, the salad fine, and the rabbit only passable. But no matter how decent the food might be, the attitude and atmosphere ruined it for us. In the end, we decided to leave with the food because we just didn’t feel comfortable...

We went here on a rainy day when the restaurant was almost empty, but the service was terrible. From the start, the waiter argued with us for minutes just about ordering a small water, and later gave us constant attitude. The rabbit dish was served cold, the salad only came after we insisted, and the waiter even muttered to himself in Italian in front of us.

The pizza was good, the salad was fine, and the rabbit tasted okay after reheating—but overall the poor service ruined the experience. In the end, we felt so uncomfortable with the whole situation that we just had to take our food away, since we live right next to the place in an Airbnb. We’re tourists, and sadly this was one of our worst dining...

BEWARE! Do not go to this place. I had heard good things about it but it must be under new management as the treatment by staff was unacceptable. We sat inside and watched them complain loudly about the diners – using swear words – then walked back to the tables and treated people like it was a privilege to eat there. They didn't realize that while we spoke English we could understand Italian – we spoke in English the entire time and were polite but could hear the comments they made about us too.

As per the food: it was okay. Nothing special. I would suggest you go elsewhere and enjoy a better experience. We have been travelling throughout Liguria and have dined all over Genova — this was by far the worst we have experienced. DO NOT GO HERE.

ATTENZIONE! Non andate in questo posto. Ne avevo sentito parlare bene, ma deve essere sotto una nuova gestione, visto che il trattamento del personale è stato inaccettabile. Ci siamo seduti dentro e li abbiamo visti lamentarsi a gran voce dei clienti, usando parolacce, poi siamo tornati ai tavoli e abbiamo trattato le persone come se fosse un privilegio mangiare lì. Non si sono resi conto che, pur parlando inglese, capivamo l'italiano: abbiamo parlato in inglese per tutto il tempo ed eravamo educati, ma sentivamo anche i commenti che facevano su di noi.

Per quanto riguarda il cibo: discreto. Niente di speciale. Vi consiglio di andare altrove e godervi un'esperienza migliore. Abbiamo viaggiato per tutta la Liguria e abbiamo cenato in tutta Genova: questo è stato di gran lunga il peggiore che abbiamo mai sperimentato....
