I'd love to give this place 5 stars - it's super cute, the staff is friendly (they speak multiple languages) and the food comes out fast!
However, maybe it is because I've been to Mexico many times. Maybe it is because I have Mexican born and raised friends or maybe it's because I eat a lot of Mexican food... However this Mexican food tasted more mexican-italian fusion.
We were super excited to have margaritas and nachos and salsa and tacos! But everything just missed the mark on tasting .. well.. Mexican.
The salsas tasted more sweet, like ketchup and the spicy sauce the same. The burritos and fajitas were tasty but the spice tastes more like oregano than cumin or cilantro or raw onion (tastes you'd expect in Mexican food). The tacos also, tasty but not Mexican taste. The margaritas were way too sweet, they lack the sour from the lime you expect and the spice (spicy margh).
You get complimentary chips and tequila shots which I think was nice and authentic to a Mexican experience. I just wish the flavors were more.. Mexican. And I think they could do that because Italy has the right produce, the right quality of ingredients.. they're just missing the spiced and moles. However their tortillas are fantastic and taste homemade.
All in all, I think for Italians this is a good place if you're looking for Italian Mexican taste but if you're looking for more Mexican flavors this may not be it. However, it's a really cute place, the decor is spot on, and everything else was very nice. However my search for more Mexican food in...
Read moreIn the top 3 worst restaurants I’ve ever visited. Extremely rude male waiter who was very dismissive and ignorant of food allergies - they weren’t 100% sure what oil was used for frying. When they forgot some of the items we ordered, we were told it was our fault and that we hadn’t ordered them. When our main dishes were served, both were wrong. I was served what I assume was the beer beef burrito but it was so sweet I couldn’t touch it after one bite. When we tried to tell the waiter our food was wrong, he insisted we were wrong and didn’t know what we ordered. However, when we went up to the door to pay, there was a lovely woman who was very understanding and apologetic for our bad experience so halved our bill and gave a us free shots of tequila. It was a shame to have a bad experience on the night we were looking for a break from...
Read moreOne of the few places that really deserves a 5* review and time to write it. Mexal has entered the restaurant scene of Lecce only recently, replacing one of the few Greek restaurants in town.
It’s a warm place, one of those places where you feel spoiled and where it feels like home. Staff is family, really, they make sure you get the best service at all times, so are the owners.
Food is extremely tasty, your taste buds will thank you for each night you visit this place. The menu is highly selected and offers a wide offer of dishes, so does the drinks menu (they have amazing cocktails to accompany meal). You could go there every day and never get bored of the food. The meat is incredible but so it’s every other single ingredient. Can’t wait to be...
