Been in Lucca for A Love Affair, I decide to step out of the city to visit this little Gem in a city call Capannori, just outside the Lucca' s walls. The couple running that business are as lovely as charming as the all place itself! They are making you feel confortable as you are in your own place, very attentive to details and funny as friends you know from all life. I decide to try their HOME MADE 'NDUJA Burger, Alex The Host with an All Black shirt ( I m Italian/Kiwi myself so you got to love him straight away ) suggested me to try first his Pastrami with pickles and home made senape with a crafted beer ( they have over 20 different kinds of Artisan beer, a dram place for a beer lovers ) ... Delightful! Tender taste with that twist that I almost bite the plate and the beer it was perfectly match for the flavour! As much as I was excited to try his on made 'Nduja Burger after the beautiful appetiser I didn't even wait to make a picture when the plate arrived that I tried right away! 10 out of 10! it wasn't as spicy as the Calabrian original but I m glad it wasn't because I couldn't probably eat that version even tho I love spicy. Aidan, Alex wife told me that she does the buns for the burgers, as they have a pizza oven and she is in charge of that ( next time I ll have pizza and focaccia , I tried a bite and it was great! ). I was almost full but I ve space for a dessert and Aidan suggested to me their home made cheesecake ( everything it s home made in this beautiful place ... amazing! ) Well... as I expected it was great! Alex was telling me that they are specialising in gluten intolerant as well since his daughter suffer for it and I ve to say it s bonus extra that make this place even better that you can imagine... Highly recommended to everyone wanted to try something really special on their stay in Lucca. I wish the best to the Guys and I definitely see...
Read moreAlright folks, let’s cut to the chase. After two weeks in Italy we were in need of alternative cuisine. We end up in Gorillas. The beer is fantastic and the food is delicious with seriously generous portions. I had an Imperial Pilsner and, as you can see from the photo, it was the best I’ve had in ages. If I had a gun, I’d have robbed the place of their entire stock.
As for the food, my wife had the fish soup (stew). It was so packed with seafood and fish in a delicious tomato broth, she couldn’t finish it. I went for the "Gorilla in New York" pastrami sandwich with gherkins. I’ve tried pastrami sandwiches in the US and, sorry to my American friends, but their versions pale in comparison to this. The pastrami was lightly smoky, soft, juicy, and combined with gherkins and mustard, it was a perfect treat.
I’m writing this while enjoying my second Imperial Pilsner (remember, I had no gun,...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Gorilla - Craft Food & Beer in Lucca after a local good friend suggested it! I can confidently say it’s a must-visit for any beer enthusiast. The selection of craft beers is outstanding, offering a range of flavors and styles that cater to every palate. What sets this place apart was my introduction to the new “Italian Grape Ale” – a unique and refreshing brew that beautifully blends the robust characteristics of beer with the delicate notes of Italian grapes. It’s a true standout and a must-try for anyone visiting. I would recommend the sour beer for sure! The food here is equally impressive. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Lucca, this shop is a gem that shouldn’t be missed. The ambience, the service, and of course, the incredible beers make it a top spot in the city. Thank you, Alessandro and team! Highly...
