My fiancé and I stumbled upon this gelateria during a visit to Lucca, after trying lots of gelato through Venice and all over Tuscany. The lady running the shop was very friendly and helpful. My Italian is terrible, but her English was great and she shared with us that she and her husband own the business. They have lots of unique flavors as well as traditional ones. The gelato is rich and flavorful. And I thought this was the best gelato we had on the trip.
After a couple more weeks of trying gelato in Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, and more of Tuscany (yes... we visited the famous gelateria in San Gimignano), we made a trip back to Lucca, specifically to visit again before leaving Italy, and I still think it is the best gelato we had on our trip!
On our second visit we met the husband, who was also incredibly friendly and helpful, and he even helped me pronounce the "Burlamacchi" flavor correctly (which was very tasty!).
Flavors tried on our two visits: Gusto Bob Dylan, Gattopardo, Crema Summer, Burlamacchi, and Girone dei Golosi...
Read moreI am a gelato maker from Australia and have been travelling in Northern Italy and Tuscany for two weeks. We found I Gelati di Piero by chance with their fantastic looking menu. The owners were very welcoming and extremely proud of their third generation family business who won the prestigious 'king of gelato' award in 2019.

The flavours were exceptional. We tried their Gattopardo with Ricotta, Orange and Pistachio and the Gusto del maestro with Rum and Chocolate fondant, as well as the Spaghetti gelato for a bit of fun.
The Gelato at I Gelati di Piero was absolutely the best I have had during my travels in Italy so far. I highly recommend stopping here while in the delightful town of Lucca to taste some of their...
Read moreGelato was okay, however, the customer service was terrible. After we choose our gelato (ps. very small, meagre scoops) JS and myself go to pay and the man at the counter (perhaps the owner) berated us for a solid 5 minutes about how we're now in Italy and how no one in Italy takes card, and that we can only use card if we're buying an ice cream worth 60 euros or more. All that and we were paying 8 euros for two shockingly small gelati - it would've been even more expensive had we chosen to eat inside. Disgusting customer service, absolutely abysmal. Wouldn't go here again if mine and my dog's life...
