This was our favourite dining experience during our 3 months stay in Italy. I honestly cannot recommend this restaurant enough!! If there is one restaurant in Matera that you absolutely have to go to, it’s this one. This understated, romantic restaurant has the best food in Matera! The service was exceptional. Our waiter took the time to explain every dish on the menu, emphasising local products. He was kind, professional and friendly. I noted that we were there for my husband’s birthday and they made it so incredibly special! Not only with a free glass of delicious Prosecco but also a candle in his dessert. Every dish was a masterpiece. We shared a starter of local ham, French cheeses and fig balsamic. It was incredible- every bite an explosion of flavour. We shared the lasagna for primo. It was the best lasagna we have ever had, especially with the local sausage through it. Finally I had the confit duck and my husband had the coq au vin. Whilst I had the tarte tatin for dessert and my husband had the salted caramel and apple crepes. We could not stop gushing about the food. This intimidate, lovely restaurant has an incredible selection of wines, world class food and immaculate service! I know that it’s easy to be tempted by other restaurants in Matera that have views or are in caves but we went to a number of these restaurants during our stay in Matera and we always left disappointed with the food. If you want genuinely delicious, world class food at a very reasonable price then this is the restaurant for you. We got to meet the chef and owner- an incredibly kind, lovely couple. You can see and feel the love, care and effort that they have put into the restaurant. They even have home made limoncello which was incredible. We cannot thank them enough for giving my husband the best dining experience on his birthday. You can easily reserve a table on Google, although walk ins are...

Phenomenal Food and Special People. There is a reason why this is considered the best restaurant in Matera by foodie websites and locals – it’s because it is! It is amazing what you can do with fresh Italian produce in the hands of a classically influenced Italian chef that is passionate about food. It has an international menu with food that is truly Michelin star quality but at a good price. This is a ‘foodie’s’ heaven. We were lucky enough to get reservations on two nights. Bizarre as it may sound, we nearly didn’t book to come back for fear our perfect evening could not be matched the second time but it not only did but it even exceeded it! It was clear the delight was experienced by every diner on both evenings in the restaurant with gushing praise from every table. The head chef (Augustine) who came out of the kitchen at the end, is a super-star and Isabelle is a fantastic hostess along with her team of Giuseppe and Vita. A truly memorable food experience – that will live in our memory for a very long time. (We can thoroughly recommend the local Sausage Lasagne,...

Superb! An excellent meal from start to finish. Outstanding service, menu, quality and atmosphere. I started with the black ham with melon coulis and my partner had the crisco peppers appetizer. Both were fantastic. I had the tagliolini and my partner had the lasagna. Amazing depth of flavour and we completely cleaned the plates. To finish we normally share a dessert but we thought that everything had been so great we better try two desserts and boy we weren't wrong. I got the caramel apple crêpe. - Seriously, just get this dessert! My partner had their twist on tiramisu and it was a really clever and tasty dish. We paired our meal with some local wines recommended by the waiter. Their dessert wine was...

Isabella is the most wonderful restaurant hostess we have met! She is the chef’s wife and is out front greeting all the guests warmly and is so patient and kind and enthusiastic to explain any and all of the dishes on the menu. We were 1 vegan, 1 vegetarian and 2 that eat everything and we all enjoyed our meals there ( lunch the first day and dinner the second day) tremendously. Their taralli is the best! For vegans, they have a special separate menu with several choices. I can highly recommend the buckwheat galette ( pancake) with a lovely creamy onion sauce, mushroom and broccoli as well as the grilled Celeriac, which was amazing!
