Cantina Meridionale — Restaurant in Milan

Possibly one of the worst restaurant I have visited because of the customer service particularly the waiter. I chose one of the sea food pasta I I think the mussels one and my mum wanted the the steak 🥩 option as her main meal BUT the waiter was so reluctant to give her that option as he claimed that it’s too big for one person. We insisted he kind of convinced us that it’s still too big. My mum had now order for the same meal as mine which she didn’t like, she also asked again for the steak and he was still stating it’s too big for one person.

I have been to several restaurants around Europe and a few in Milan before this one, but am still perplexed why the waiter refused and shocked because if we don’t finish after all it’s our money and we will pay for it irrespective of if we didn’t finish it.

It’s not like they have a policy that if you waste meals you will be charged. Till today I am still shocked.

Ps: my pasta wasn’t the best too as the pasta was as strong wasn’t cooked tasted raw .

We were served by what appeared to be an India–Pakistan team, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were being subtly discriminated against as Asians. Our group ordered four very standard dishes — pizza, pasta, salad, and one more typical item — around 12:00 noon.

Two other tables, who arrived after us and placed their orders 5–10 minutes later, received their meals before we did. This was extremely unpleasant. The staff offered no apology or proper explanation. Instead, they gave an absurd excuse that the carbonara takes 20 minutes, so if we had told them it was okay to serve the other dishes first, they would have done so. They never addressed or denied the possibility of discrimination.

Asian visitors should take note of this. The food itself is also nothing special — very average at best.

A waste of time and money. The group meal was acceptable . All in all, the food wasn't terrible. After dinner, we all chipped in to pay the tab. We used credit cards to pay, and when we were leaving, the staff claimed that someone had not paid their fair portion. Fortunately, each of us had the receipt to verify that we paid in full. The charge was made in a nasty manner (they might have checked the cc machine before making these accusations), and they still did not apologize after being shown to be wrong. Absolutely terrible service, verging on a scam. A waste of time.
