My brief sojourn at the IQ Hotel in Milano was, on the whole, a decidedly positive and civilized affair. One finds oneself in that modern category of establishment where the lobby makes a minimalist statement (translation: you won’t be playing cricket in it, but your suitcase fits nicely), yet the rooms are thoughtfully appointed and generously proportioned.
The chamber assigned to me was more than ample for a single night’s plotting of Milanese conquests, and the bathroom was a shiny, clean, and functional cubicle of hygiene—always a welcome sight. A particular tip of the hat must be given to the clever inclusion of a complimentary mini-bar, stocked with soft drinks. It’s a small touch, but the sort of thing that makes a weary traveller feel like a minor royalty, or at least a very valued imp.
The breakfast was a veritable symphony of edible options—a sprawling buffet of breads, pastries, and fruits that could easily fortify one for a lengthy assault on the Duomo or a serious day of furniture shopping.
The staff were, without exception, professional and efficient. However, I couldn’t help but observe the fascinating, unspoken information economy at play. Upon my departure, I witnessed a fellow guest being furnished with a wealth of informations : discounts were procured, and the existence of a communal microwave oven was revealed—an information i was not given by the Lady who checked me in.
I must confess to a slight, humorous pang of envy. Had I but known of this available thermal device, my leftover risotto alla milanese might have been resurrected for a midnight feast! It seems the quality of one’s stay can hinge slightly on which helpful soul one encounters at the desk. A touch more consistency on that front would elevate the experience from very good to superlative.
But let me not grouse. In summary, the IQ Hotel is a thoroughly commendable basecamp. It is clean, comfortable, and offers an excellent breakfast. Just be sure to casually inquire about any hidden magical artefacts—and potential discounts—upon your arrival. You’ll be...
Read moreThis was the third location of the iQ hotel chain that we stayed at over the past few weeks. Based on the previous two hotels (Rome and Florence), I had high expectations. This location is within a few minutes walk to Centrale FS which is really convenient. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. I liked the wood floors instead of carpet in the rooms. We actually saw the staff cleaning the vents in the hall which is something most people would overlook. There is one washer and dryer available for guest use for €4 each on thev5th floor but be sure to check the time because there is a 10:00 p.m. lock down and the room does not kreopen until 8:00 a.m. There is also an ice machine and water dispenser on the 2nd floor. In the main lobby there is fruit infused water available for guests. While they offered many of the things that the other locations did (free mini bar, free welcome drink, breakfast), it somehow didn't have the same vibe. The room seemed to be set up for one guest. One water in the luke warm fridge. One shampoo. One body wash. Our room was on the 4th floor and had a little balcony with a view of a parking lot. The staff was reserved. The food at breakfast always looked picked over. The hallways were dark and narrow and there always seemed to be a housekeeping cart blocking the hall. Last night there were very loud adult men running down the stairs pushing the elevator buttons on each floor. The elevators are already inadequate for the size of the hotel and frequently were being used by staff. The hallways had an odd smell, like old cheese Our room was shower only with shower doors that didn't really seal so the bathroom floor was always flooded. We asked for a room with a bathtub but we were told that only rooms on the first floor had bathtubs. The entrance to the lobby from the street has stairs which is inconvenient. There is nothing majorly wrong with the hotel; I just...
Read moreWe stayed here for 3 nights and it’s perfectly located 2-3 mins walk from central station and the metro which is convenient for exploring the city. The staff are very helpful, informative and friendly. Upon arrival we were given drink vouchers at the hotel bar on the 6th floor which was a nice touch. The bar was very nice and chilled. The room was very clean bright and modern and the ac was brilliant. There’s big flat scored tv, kettle, safe and mini fridge which was nicely stocked with a good selection of soft drinks/ still sparking water which were all free and restocked daily! We definitely took advantage of the laundry room, €4 for a wash and €4 for the dryer. Both machines are of a decent size (we managed to do 2 weeks worth of clothes in one wash and one dry). There’s also a still/ sparkling water dispensing machine on the 2nd floor together with a microwave for use anytime.
There are lots of nice restaurants/ cafes in the surrounding area. We took advantage of the hotels location (8 mins walk) and explored Fontana BAM - Biblioteca degli alberi Milano which was very relaxing and peaceful. Whilst you’re there it’s also worth exploring the Piazza Gae Aulenti for something to eat and shopping away from the crowd. From there we walked to the Monumental Cemetery of Milan which has some amazingly beautiful crypts.
Few things though- the lift is rather small and on occasions we couldn’t even get in because it was packed, plus it can take a while for the lift to reach you. The hair dryer in the bathroom didn’t work properly (they did however provide us another dryer to use) and housekeeping were a tad noisy cleaning the adjacent rooms in the morning which woke me up.
All in all we would definitely recommend this hotel and we would...
