Classic Tuscan, Milanese Style - Suppose you're looking for a taste of Tuscany. In that case, in food and the decidedly stereotypical and didactic décor - this spot in Piazza Baracca, right at the corner of Corso Magenta, is a solid choice. Finding authentic Tuscan cuisine in the heart of Milan isn't easy, but this restaurant delivers a commendable experience.
Recreating Tuscany at the edge of Milan's bustling center is no small feat, and while the attempt might feel a bit contrived, it works. The restaurant has two distinct dining areas: one is elegant and suited for business lunches, while the other leans towards a more festive, family-style vibe, reminiscent of a communion celebration. The former is refined, and the latter borders on excessive — choose according to your mood.
The service is a highlight. Professional waitstaff, a rarity not only in Milan but across much of Italy, provides efficient and prompt service. Dishes arrive quickly, a definite plus. However, a minor misstep: wine tasting should be offered both per glass (when switching wines) and with each new bottle. It's a small but important detail.
The menu offers Tuscan cuisine with a touch of Milanese influence, which feels appropriate given the setting. The food is good - better than many touristy spots in Tuscany and nearly on par with the classic Tuscan standard, which is becoming increasingly rare. While the dishes could use a bit more seasoning to align with the original Tuscan style, they fit well with Milanese expectations. Portion sizes are just right, a welcome departure from the miniature servings typical of central Milan.
This is a traditional restaurant worth considering for business lunches or dinners (opt for the first dining room) as well as for casual gatherings with friends and family. A must-visit for enthusiasts of Tuscan cuisine and a great option for those...
Read moreWhere to begin? I’ll try to be respectful, contrary of what I’ve experienced here. Simply if you’re foreign avoid this place… you will be treated really bad. I guess it has to do with the language barrier, their frustration of us not speaking Italian.
We were rushed to order even though the restaurant was empty. Waiter just kept smashing plates and glasses on the table. When we were done with anything, they left the empty plate or glass until we told them to remove it.
They put some olives at the beginning, which we were eating until the angry waiter came and took them away. This didn’t bother us until we realized they put the damn olives on the check even though we never asked for them and they took them before finishing them without a word.
Food was good. But just good, nothing from another world. Thank god they put some salt on the table. We decided to not leave any tip for this angry waiter guy, but they charge 4€ service per person anyway. I guess that’s the reason he’s able to treat people like garbage.
Decided to go across the street to a pizzeria. Wish I’ve never stepped in...
Read moreSorry for no photos but my family thoroughly enjoyed the meal here. Great tuscany wine with our grilled tagliata, lamb steaks and papparadele cinghale (sp). Every aspect of the dishes were delicious. Great portions.
Additional the selection of bread was perfect. Several varieties to try. Veggies were grilled and seasonal fresh. The staff was very gracious and professional which is something we lack in the United States. We arrived at 7 pm on a Wednesday night and the place started filling up at 8 pm. This tells me its also a local favorite.
Lastly just check out the details. Everything was wiped clean throughout the establishment. I would bet if I stood on a ladders and wiped the center beam support hanging above our table. No dust would collect. These guys take pride in their establishment. We appreciate that! Keep up the good work and hope to visit again in the near future. -The...
