The arrogance of the staff at this restaurant cannot be surpassed. We chose this restaurant because you could see into the kitchen from the outside and we were given the feeling that there was a certain transparency.
There was already chaos when we ordered. When the drinks arrived, a glass of water was missing. When we asked for it, it was reluctantly brought to us, as the clay cups at the table were supposed to be used for this purpose.... but we didn't want that.
Bread, oil and balsamic vinegar, which is brought to the table in heaps in every small pizzeria, was brushed at our table (there were five of us!!!) in counted form, five tiny pieces of bread!
The oil bottle was almost empty, so that only 2 people at the table could take some when we asked for new oil, we were looked at strangely as if we had drunk the oil bottle!
Pepper and salt only came after repeated requests and then the pepper mill was broken it was difficult to get everything to the table that was needed....
When the ordered menus arrived one of the menus had a hair!!!!!!
We reported this directly and it was exchanged without apology or anything else! Then came the replacement menu which was still raw - not firm to the bite as is usually the case with pasta.
To make matters worse, the scandal happened when I was paying and asked about the service charge... I was told that this had something to do with education! I was probably eating in Italy for the first time, but it was just a question and a polite one at that, despite all the incidents and the rude behavior of the staff that had spoiled our evening.
My niece was reimbursed for the raw menu! The mere fact that there was a hair in her menu should have made us get up and leave the place - but if you are too nice you get lectured on what education is by rude and clumsy people who have no education!
The fact that all the negative reviews here are so exaggeratedly rejected by the resturant shows the dishonest machinations with which this resturant fakes and fudges reviews!
What a pity! In the end it was "only" an unpleasant dinner for us, but we will remember it as a guest-unfriendly...
Read moreWe looked for a nice authentic place for dinner with friends in the Navigli district. The open kitchen caught our eyes.
That's basically the end of it.
The staff were, to put it simply, shady.
It's starts from how pushy they were, goes through the fact that they were bluntly recommending only the most pricy items on the menu, not even convincingly, and ended up by straight up with blaming us for dishes that didn't arrive for over an hour beacuse to their claim, we never actually ordered (after we agreed to something the waiter himself recommended - so how was it our fault "we didn't order"??). It was all very bizarre service wise. First of its experience in Italy.
Water never came when we ordered it as well.
At one point when one of our party opened about allergies and dietary restrictions, one of the waiters even blurted that (at least some of) the dishes are premade and are only reheated therefor cannot be changed.
Pasta dishes were fine by Italian standards, nothing special but nothing bad. I trust the nonna from the kitchen's window more than I trust the waiting stuff and hopefully whatever she made fresh, got to our table.
All and all, if it's for pasta alone, it's ok even if on the pricier side of what we experienced so far. But the location plays part in it I imagine.
Your average tourist trap, but that's on us.
P.s I will commend their online presence for masterfully masking that. I totally fell for the image of authentic Italian eatery.
P.s 2 The young waiter was a real sweetheart, and even brought us mosquito repellant, which is a must there. If I could score him...
Read moreThe highlight of Osteria dal Cornuto is definitely the open kitchen where you can watch a woman skillfully making fresh pasta by hand—it’s such a cool and authentic touch that adds charm to the atmosphere. It was really enjoyable to see the process and added a special vibe to the evening.
However, while the experience was visually impressive, the food itself was just okay. We tried a couple of pasta dishes and, although they were fresh, the flavors were quite basic and not particularly memorable. Everything tasted a bit under-seasoned and lacked the depth we were expecting, especially given the handcrafted pasta.
We also had to wait quite a long time for our food, which made the experience feel a bit slow. If you’re in no rush and want to enjoy the show of fresh pasta-making, it’s a nice spot—but don’t expect anything extraordinary in terms of flavor.
All in all, it’s a cool place to visit once, especially for the handmade pasta experience, but the food was more on the average side. Worth trying if you’re curious, but not a must for...
