The oldest Indian restaurant in Milan offers succulent meat and veggie currys, rich and creamy. The menu also includes a selection of fragrant Indian street food. The house offers complimentary poppadoms and dipping sauces (yoghurt, chilli and honey) before the meal, and digestive seeds at the end. Last night we shared the mixed starter and two lamb currys, one extra spicy, the other in coconut and cashew sauce. Vegetarian options are delicious too and include (but aren't limited to) chickpea, aubergine, and paneer curry. Good choice of bread, this time around I had some cheese naan but I also recommend their stuffed paratha. They also have a good wine selection and Indian beers, yoghurt drinks and chai. Overall, we spent €30 per person (party of 2), including 1lt red house wine.
At the entrance, visitors are welcomed by an eye-catching shrine containing Ganesha, who is always covered in fresh flower garlands and other offerings. Incense and candles are always burning and diffuse the environment with a delicate scent, which doesn't disturb the meal at all. The main room sits in dim light and is nicely decorated - I really like the combination of mid XX century Indian posters, Ganesha icons and Indian furniture. While I've always dined inside before, last night we chose a table on the pavement outside: as the street is quiet, it's lovely to have the option
Staff are polite, service is professional and efficient. The owner in his immacolate white tunic is always around, greeting people and supporting table service. Shri Ganesh is a favourite of mine, a local gem and a great spot for currys - most probably the best Indian food you can...
Read moreOk, first things first the review is on the overall experience and things which matter for Indian restaurant, especially if it’s a one which is outside India, as it represents the country and its food culture. I’m gonna be as specific as possible. I ordered 2 naans - garlic & cheese, a portion of Rogan josh, a biriyani, a mix tandoori platter & lassi. All this costed me around 45 which is decent. Food was really good, made well, portions were good too.! So what went wrong? The things which come with the food and the timing. As a person from a culinary standpoint The service was too slow for an Indian restaurant. The atmosphere was really dark. The food wasn’t provided well with its own condiments. For instance I ordered the mixed grill plater Which consisted of two pieces of tikka/tandoori 1 piece of malai tikka, 1 piece of seekh, 1 piece of lollipop, 1 piece of hariyali tikka this was really good But the condiment of hari chutney wasn’t provided The most important dip for a...
Read moreShri Ganesh offers a solid experience for those craving Indian cuisine, though it left me with mixed feelings. The food was undeniably delicious, with well-balanced spices and fresh ingredients. However, the flavors, while enjoyable, didn’t stand out as particularly exciting or memorable. It was satisfying but lacked that extra spark to make it truly special.
The service was a bit of a rollercoaster. It took the staff a while to take our order, which was slightly frustrating, but once the order was in, the delivery of the dishes was impressively swift. Their attentiveness improved as the meal went on, and they were polite and accommodating throughout.
The cozy atmosphere added a nice touch, making it a pleasant place to enjoy a meal, even if it lacked a distinct charm. Shri Ganesh is a reliable spot for a comforting Indian meal, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark for a truly standout...
