Gustavo — Restaurant in Monopoli

Honestly, the best sandwiches in town. Stop reading the reviews and get a sandwich here. They are worth it. I've had the Porchetta (Gusto 1) and the Coppacolo Di Martina Franca (Gusto 1) and both of them are excellent (although I definitely recommend the latter, as the Porchetta was a bit on the dry and salty side for my liking). After you got your sandwich, turn right while facing the salumeria and look to your left, you'll find a micro-harbor (I'm sure there's a name for it but it eludes me) with some benches where you can enjoy your sandwich. After you eat it, resist the urge to go buy a second one and plan your next visit, it's going to be even better a second time, because you'll love it even more. Literally a hole in the wall deli. It barely fits the three people working diligently to make you an amazing sandwich. This is not fast food... not in quality or in time. But it is amazing food. We sat on the seawall of the small harbor behind the castle and ate with grins on our faces. I got the porcetta which came with baked potato (which turned out to be roasted potato cubes) and artichoke spread. My partner got the Salame sandwich. Did we like it? How many people did we tell "If you are in Monopoli, you gotta go!"

Disappointing Experience at Gustavo in Monopoli

Unfortunately, my recent visit to Gustavo in Monopoli was not up to the standard of previous visits. The food arrived cold, and the portion sizes were noticeably smaller than before. I ordered the Focaccia with Porchetta di Ariccia IGP, a dish I’ve enjoyed in the past, but this time it came with only two small potatoes, far less than expected. The quality and flavor that once made this place a favorite seem to have declined.

I’ve always appreciated the attention to detail and the authenticity of the ingredients here, especially with premium products like the Porchetta di Ariccia IGP. I hope this was just an off day, as I’d love to see Gustavo return to its former...
