For an "enoteca" they serve red wine at room temperature. Last time we were there it was in July, at lunch, during a heat wave, and our rather costly our Superumbrian was at 33 C, in other words, broth. I asked why it did not come from the cellar, where the temperature is uniformly and naturally at 16 C, and the waitress replied that they only keep vintage wines in the cellar. Yet our choice was a costly wine from 2016 which she poured in a decanter with high ceremony--and yet it was warm. She then obtained a glacette and cooled it down, but this should not happen at all and is just not acceptable. The food was good if not superb, the dessert, as we remembered from the other times we ate there, absolutely stunning, something that belongs in a whole different category, and city, or maybe even continent. It won't be long now and the pasticcière (pastry chef) will be stolen by a restaurant of a...
Read moreWe had lunch at this restaurant in Montefalco yesterday with my mum and my partner. We had a reservation for 2 PM and sat outside. The experience was truly positive: the staff was extremely kind and attentive, and the dishes were well-prepared and beautifully presented, with top-quality ingredients, many of which were locally sourced. We really appreciated the clarity of flavors, with no excessive salt, as so often happens, and the pairings were interesting and thoughtfully balanced. From the starter to dessert, we enjoyed every course — and I personally felt no heaviness afterwards, which is rare for me as I’m quite sensitive. The wine list is extensive and well-curated, with a nice selection from the region. The only downside was a noisy construction site nearby, but that was just bad luck. We were all very happy with the experience. Highly...

My wife and I had just come from Orvieto, where we learned about how they survived attacks by raising (and eating) pigeons in the caves below the city. When my wife saw Pigeon on the menu, she said that we would be eating anything but that.
Well, the sommelier came to our table to help us chose a wine and asked us what we were considering for our meat. He got the story, and then proceeded to gently guide us down the path of ordering the "bird". We were, of course in Montefalco. He paired this with the Montefalco Sagrantino for us.
I must say we both think this is one of the most enjoyable meals we had on the trip. It was a bit adventurous, and clearly romantic, fun, and delicious. Go here...
