Osteria Cavallino Bianco — Restaurant in Naples

We went there in the morning looking for a specific pastry. At first, they told us they didn’t make it there. Then, when we said okay as we walked out because we really wanted to try this specific pastry, the chef/manager came out and said to wait, that they had it back in the kitchen. They sat us down, and we waited for about 5-10 minutes. When the waitress came out with it, it was not the pastry that we had asked for. We were hungry and tired of waiting, so we decided to eat it. The pastries they gave us were good and tasty, and so was the coffee, but we felt they took advantage of us by lying. It’s not like they didn’t understand what we wanted as one of us speaks Italian. They probably thought, “Oh, they are tourists, they wouldn’t notice the difference anyway,” but that is not good customer service; it’s just deceitful. When we went in to pay and show them a picture of what we asked for, they acknowledged that they didn’t make that pastry there. We visited this place around a month ago. We were 3 persons and we ordered a lot of different plates based on meat (parmigiano di melanzane, pasta alla genovese, polpette di melanzane, cotoletta e patate, melanzane al funghetto etc). At some point, while we had already finished our meal and we had a lot of leftovers, while we were already full, the owner came to us telling that he wanted us to try an octupus plate he makes. We answered thanks a lot but we were full and ready for coffee but he insisted a lot that it was very good and we HAD to taste it. We still said no thanks because we didn't have anymore appetite but he insisted again. Then we said ok then (since we thought he wanted to offer something) but only if it was very very small quantity like one "fork quantity" (una forchettata). He came back with 3 small plates of boiled octapus (that we had NEVER ordered) and he charged us with 15 euros (5 for each plate) at the end without giving us even...

My wife and I had a craving for pasta carbonara, but of course that dish is typical available near Rome rather than Naples. Despite this tasty treat not on the menu at Cavallino, the owner/chef was so accommodating that she whipped up her own pasta carbonara and served us our favorite meal in all of Italy. It was as if the chef was serving her children a hearty homemade meal giving us a true taste of authentic Italian cuisine. This custom created dish was so good, we ordered a second one and the chef didn't hesitate to make it again. To top it all off, each dish was served at an unbelievably affordable price.
