Abhorrent service. We went in to try a few flavours, just to see what we liked before deciding what to buy more of. The lady ignored us. Even when we tried to order in Italian (albeit perhaps not well :/ but we tried our best), her attitude was sour from the get go.
After standing patiently at the cash for a few minutes, and eventually paying in euros, the woman LITERALLY threw the change at me and it fell behind the cash register. She smirked, shrugged and turned to walk away mumbling something in Italian as she did so.
As Canadians we have never, ever been disrespectful towards anyone, especially when we are guests in their country, and especially in a customer service circumstance. We know that job isn’t easy for most. We were not disrespectful or rude in any way towards this person and she was completely hateful.
This was by far the absolute worst treatment we’ve received after travelling to dozens of countries. The taralli also were inedible (maybe she gave us bad ones :/).
So many other places to go for Taralli! Avoid this place. That woman should be ashamed of herself and how she...
Read moreWe found this place by accident and it turned out to be both historical and great. You get a complimentary tarallo if you order a drink. So, we tried two classics with our spritz. I didn't know that they all had almonds and black pepper; it's a fine combination. Then, we decided to go for the sweet ones. The sugary chocolate covered one is absolutely divine. We also wanted to try the mixed-spice one, the old granny recipe. The guy at the counter warned us about it being "a bit hard". After failing to bite and break it with two hands, we decided to pack it for the next morning when we can find a caffe latte to dip in maybe. When they saw that we stopped fighting the biscuit, they offered us the actual chocolate covered one, which turned out to be almost as hard as the granny version. We managed to broke that one. I may have offended some Italians by dipping my half into a glass of Aperol Spritz but that was the only way. Sorry about that. And thank you to the two lovely people working there that evening for making this a fun...
I had a very negative experience at Taralleria Napoletana Leopoldo, located under the central station of Naples. The first thing that struck me was the high price of the taralli: 1.60 euros for a piece of about 25 grams, which equals a whopping 64 euros per kilo. This price is off the market, especially when compared to the 13.00 euros per kilo at Tarallificio Tonino in Secondigliano, a true reference point for those seeking absolute quality. The quality of the taralli purchased was extremely disappointing. I expected a fragrant and tasty product, but I was deeply dissatisfied, finding a completely flavorless product. I tried taralli of different flavors, but the taste was always the same: practically nonexistent. Another bewildering aspect concerns the behavior of the saleswomen, who seem like skilled magicians. The taralli displayed in the window appear large and inviting, but at the time of purchase, they are taken from a lower compartment and are much smaller. Only at home, when opening the package, do you realize that the taralli are smaller, yet they are still sold at the price of 1.60 euros each. In conclusion, if I had lost my wallet under the station, I would have suffered less financial damage than that caused by my experience at Taralleria Napoletana. I absolutely do not recommend this store and hope others can avoid the same...
