I was scammed at this restaurant. Do not go.
I typically enjoy smaller mom-and-pop restaurants and entered this restaurant around 10:45AM hoping to order more substantial food instead of the typical pastries at the surrounding cafes. Being as no other dining guests were there, the first thing I did was ask the waiter if it was too early for food. I understand that many restaurants aren’t ready to serve heavier meals that early. He said it wasn’t, he double-checked with the cook, and said it was fine. After I sit down, he then informs me that since it’s so early, the pizza is not yet ready, but all the pastas were fine to order. Okay sure, no problem I say.
I order the Neopolitan ragú with rigatoni pasta per the menu…. I end up getting ziti pasta with regular tomato sauce. NO meat. I immediately ask, why is there no meat in the sauce? Why is the pasta different?
The waiter’s reply: Ziti and rigatoni pasta are essentially the “same thing”. And this is just how Neapolitan ragú looks like, the sauce is just “simmered” in the meat for very long but there’s no actual meat in the sauce. He then spends 5 minutes explaining to me what “Neopolitan” style means and that it’s “difficult to explain to tourists” like me. But he says this sauce is “normal”.
I’ve included a picture so you can see what the ragú sauce looks like- if you look, you’ll see only Parmesan cheese, no meat. Very interesting that my sister’s sauce, who is vegetarian, tasted exactly the same as mine. Like canned tomato sauce.
Had they just said, Hey ragú sauce takes a long time, we don’t have this dish- sure, absolutely no problem. What I have an issue with is the gaslighting and condescension that because I’m a tourist, it’s okay to lie to me and serve me something not on the menu (that I was reassured was available) because I somehow wouldn’t notice the pasta or sauce was different. If they were honest about it, I wouldn’t have an issue.
Very very sad bc I wanted to...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a truly authentic dining experience in Naples, skip the tourist traps and come to Trattoria Fedele. This place is everything you want in a local spot: warm, welcoming, and all about great Italian food done right.
The food? Absolutely incredible. The carbonara was one of the best I’ve ever had, so rich, perfectly balanced, and unforgettable. The fried calamari and shrimp were golden and crispy, the Italian sausage bursting with flavor, and the O’ Mezzaniello alla Fedele was a standout dish that perfectly captures the heart of Neapolitan cooking. Pair any of these with their local wine. Smooth, full-bodied, and far better than many bottles you’d pay triple the price for elsewhere and you’ll be in heaven.
What really sets this place apart, though, is the service and atmosphere. The staff here treat you like family, not customers. Fedele himself personally greeted us, checked in during the meal, and even came over to say goodbye, which made the entire night so special. It’s hospitality at a level that rivals (and honestly beats) many fine dining restaurants.
The ambiance is exactly what you’d want from a neighborhood trattoria: cozy, lively, and genuine. It’s not trying to be trendy or pretentious. It’s just real Italian food served with love. And as a bonus, it’s a fantastic spot to bring kids. We came with our baby girl, and everyone went out of their way to make her feel welcome. She loved it just as much as we did!
Bottom line: Trattoria Fedele is a must-visit in Naples. A memorable meal, warm people, and an experience you’ll carry with you long after...
Read moreThis place is a hit or miss. And unfortunately, when we went, it was a complete miss. We came on a Sunday night and they were extremely busy. After waiting at the table for 30 min we finally were able to put down our order for drinks & food and around another 30 min later we got the food. The Ragu is just plain tomato sauce, no meat at all, nothing special at all either, it tasted like straight out of a canned sauce. We thought the gave us the wrong order at first. The rucola salad turned out to be a couple of ice berg salad leaves with tomato and mozarella. the seafood risotto barely had any seafood, we decided to come to this restaurant in the first place because the picture of the seafood risotto in the reviews looked great but after ordering it, it looked nothing like the pictures. It seems like they ran out of incredients but instead of putting things unavailable, they tried to somewhat make the best out of it at the full price. Regarding the waiting it seems they accepted too many guests to handle since all the tables around us seemed to wait forever for things....worst experience in Italy so far. The waiters were very friendly but seemed also to be...
