Came here because of the Google reviews but was disappointed. Waiter had an awful attitude from the moment we arrived (he seemed to be having a really bad day). He mixed up our initial drinks order and forgot two plates (one starter and one main) from our food order. The drinks may have been a language issue (we don’t speak Italian, unfortunately, but tried our best with English/Spanish). But I think the missed food order was him not putting the order through despite taking it - I know because he checked once we (very politely) reminded him.
This resulted in one of our party (of five) eating after the rest of us had finished, as they received their meal late. The manager/owner came to apologise (which we appreciated) but it still rather spoiled the experience.
We also asked for a small plate of plain spaghetti (no sauce) for our three year old daughter, for which they charged €12, which seemed a little excessive.
The pasta dishes we had were good and we had a nice wine to go with it. However, we also ordered a caprese salad which came without basil (or if it did then it was a tiny amount of dried basil) - I’m not sure if that’s normal or not in this part of Italy but not something I've come across before. We ordered croquettes too, which were decent, despite arriving late.
Finally, when paying, the waiter (the same one that was quite rude to us previously) was at pains to point out that tip wasn’t included in the bill (but we noticed that a service charge was). Now, I will happily pay a tip for decent (doesn't have to be exceptional) service and I also don't have any issues with a service charge either, but to effectively be asked for a tip for poor service on top of a service charge left a bad taste.
I can recommend the pasta dishes, but little else, unfortunately, which is a pity as it was our first meal in Naples.
I rarely leave reviews but felt compelled to today to provide some balance (although I’m glad to hear many others had only good...
Read moreIn a city where tradition is sacred and culinary standards run high, Trattoria Pizzeria Bella Napoli Centro asserts itself with quiet confidence. Established in 1990, this family-run trattoria offers a faithful rendition of Neapolitan and southern Italian cooking, executed with precision and soul.
The experience begins with a masterclass in simplicity: zeppoline — feather-light fritters with a delicate savory bite — and arancinas that strike a perfect balance between a crisp exterior and a tender, aromatic core. These opening notes immediately signal a kitchen rooted in tradition yet attentive to detail.
Among the primi piatti, the carbonara is a study in restraint, allowing the quality of the ingredients — al dente pasta, rich yolk, and cured pork — to shine through without distraction. The risotto with porcini and provola is deeply satisfying, its earthy richness lifted by the subtle smokiness of the cheese. Meanwhile, the potato and provola pasta, a nod to regional comfort food, is executed with both heart and refinement.
The fried prawns and squid arrive golden and greaseless, their clean flavors a testament to the freshness of the seafood and the lightness of the batter — a dish that requires as much respect for the ingredients as technical skill.
Service is warm yet professional, enhancing the sense of being both a guest and part of a long-standing tradition. Bella Napoli Centro doesn’t pander to tourists nor chase trends; instead, it offers a genuine and deeply satisfying journey into the heart of Neapolitan food culture.
For those seeking an unfiltered, authentic taste of Naples, Bella Napoli Centro is a destination...
Read moreMy husband and I went to this trattoria some days ago. The vibe seemed nice, so did the staff. We heard the advice of the owner regarding what to eat and order their “house antipasto”, when we asked what does it had, the first thing he said was “mozzarella, and a mix of “mare” and “terra” typical dishes. Then, when we asked for the bread, he gave us a focaccia instead. We also ordered a first dish, dessert and even coffee. The food was good in general and as I said before, they seemed kind. But unfortunately when the owner gave us the bill, we noticed with disappointment that the “mozzarella” and the “focaccia” were outside the “antipasto” and the “coperto” respectively. We told him our concern and let him know that we didn’t even ordered the “focaccia”. He never even mentioned it had an extra cost or cared to ask if we would like to have it so we assume it was there as part of the appetizer or instead of the bread. We end up paying for a 30 Eur antipasto + 6 EUR for a small mozzarella + 5 EUR for the focaccia + 4 EUR for the coperto. We felt he took advantage of the situation and found his reply “thanks for the advice” in a totally sarcastic and rude manner totally inappropriate. I would recommend to watch out for what you order and to check the bill twice as we found this person quite misleading. The food was nice but there are plenty of nice food trattorias in Napoli with best manners from the staff and above all, without wanting to take advantage...
