I was drawn in by the tasteful jazz music and on first site the menu looked good, but a huge but indeed there is, mediocre quality of the food there is, chicken liver pate was dried out on the sides therefor not fresh garnished with orange zest bitter as hell and some dried out truffle shaving and on top some gin jelly, the sweet bread served with it made it bearable but overall bitter was the code word. the carbonara afterwards, served close to cold salted as it was made by someone whose taste buds stopped functioning a long time ago, a waste of food. Another remark, our wineglasses where poured conservatively compared to our American "neighbours" and this twice. Overpaid for what is was worth. not to say to avoid this place but consider yourself warned, the charming Jazz music is the only thing positive here
*edit ,you're right the comment about the Conservative pouring the glasses was childish of me, it was a factual statement but not one that killed it for me. The ET remark? how inappropriate and unprofessional , my comment about the food was, again, factual, the pate was dried out on the borders ...read :a darker colour when too long exposed in open air , every knows that, no? the Gin Jelly Bread? Not well balanced in my opinion, I'm merely pointing out how this was perceived, why is this, again, being criticised with a childish remark? Instead of countering this review as an insult to your bigger than life service try to do better, be critical about how this service was perceived and improve. And for your knowledge , your Neighbour restaurant ( on your left side when you face your own) was absolutely fabulous. Food, wine , service, it missed the great music tough, so when it's good I write very very positive reviews. May the force e with you,...
Read moreLike always we were looking for a top restaurant. This time in Orvieto, italy. We passed a completely empty terras and saw the sign bistro Miranda "not what you expect". Tempted as we were we sat down and curious what would be offered to us we orderd some sparkling water and two glasses of white wine. One lunato orvieto classico superiore 2019, the other a Traluce 2019. Both very pleasant wines to start with. On the menu a Uovo croccate con tartufo nero e brioche calda. Crispy egg with black truffle on fondant potatos. Marked with a red "chefs head" because is was specially recommended by the chef. Incredible perfect! The second dish Camberi con insalata di arance e finocchi, gamba's wth orange and fennel salad. Perfectly made with the paper thin sliced fennel. Of course after this experience we would like to taste the other dish marked with a "red chefs head": Cacio e pepe al Varnelli e polvere di Caffè, a al dente cooked spaghetti with black pepper, dry anise, peccorino and coffee powder. Incredible inventive dish perfectly made. To accompany it a La Marchesa 2021 van Fevdi Spada a winery we visited later that day. What an astonishing wine! We finished with an other speciality wich normaly only was served at dinnertime but thanks to the lovely service from Simona, who passionately served us as if Miranda was her own restaurant we could taste it. A sweet sparkling red wine from the Rome region with homemade cookies that we should dip in the wine. This is probably the best restaurant in Orvieto, no we did not try them all, bud most certainly...
Read moreWe and our dog were so lucky to have picked Bistro Miranda to have lunch. We had arrived late at our Hotel (Aquila Bianca) which is directly opposite and faces Miranda and 3 other eateries.
Debora, the co-owner, confirmed that they would be happy to stay open for us and she made us feel VERY welcome. We speak Italian, but she and Simona also speak sufficient English to be able to support customers.
Renato, the Chef and co-owner is an extremely creative cook and artist and we were 'wowed' by everything he prepared for us then and when we returned for dinner that evening.
Not only are the people here on the top of their game, they loved our dog and were just preparing to welcome a 19 year Ukrainian refugee to work in their kitchen. They even arranged for us to meet the girl, who was still clearly traumatised by her ordeal in getting to Italy and splitting from her family. We wanted to offer her some personal gesture of support and know now that she is also very lucky to have taken under the wings of Bistro Miranda.
Great welcome, great food, great environment and...
