This place has a few things to like, and several things to dislike. For the likes: they are nearly always open. That’s good for times when other shops and restaurants are closed; and they’re open late night. The other thing to like is that it is a spacious place, likable decor and many little pockets of areas to sit alone, as a couple or large group — indoor and outdoors. Now the dislikes: as many others have mentioned... the prices! They are indeed ridiculous for the quality and taste of food. Some staff are cool, others make you want to leave. The lunch is quite mediocre, even if it wasn’t so expensive, I would still rather eat a bag of chips and a soda. The breakfast options (Italian breakfast) is mediocre too! EVERYWHERE else in Orvieto and most of Italy, a cornetto (croissant) is €1. Here, €1,10-€2. EVERYWHERE else in Orvieto and most of Italy, an espresso is €1, here is €1,10-1,50 depending on who is the cashier. The same for cookies or treats, sometimes, for the same amount or type of treat, one person will say one amount, while others say a different amount. Worst gelato ever! Sorry, but true. When a CHILD takes a bite and then starts playing with the sugar on the table or asking when it is time to go, you know it needs help. Oh and I will say the evening staff are more cordial than the day people. The service, cocktails and atmosphere is much nicer.
I simply believe they could use some updates in their food quality, taste and service. It is, however, a nice play to go and pass...
Read more🌟 Glowing Review for Caffè Montanucci 🌟
Caffè Montanucci is an absolute gem and the perfect respite in the heart of the city. From the moment I walked in, I felt at ease. The atmosphere is warm and elegant—with Fleetwood Mac playing in the background, creating a laid-back, inviting vibe.
The food was exceptional. I had a wonderfully fresh salad, a perfectly prepared pasta dish, and followed it up with pastries that were both beautiful and delicious. The gelato was also top-notch—rich, creamy, and full of flavor.
Service was excellent: friendly, attentive, and—worth noting—I had zero issues communicating with the staff. Everything felt easy and welcoming.
Whether you’re dropping in for a quick espresso or settling in for a longer meal, Caffè Montanucci delivers across the board. Great food, warm service, and Fleetwood Mac? That’s a...
Read moreThis place is great! For breakfast they have the best selection of pastries, from plain breads to croissants to fruit pastries. Also full English breakfast, if that's your choice. Their espresso is the best I've had here in Orvieto (and I'm very particular about my espresso).
They have a very nice lunch with sandwiches and a selection of dishes and salads. Their happy hour is also great with just about everything: prosecco, wine, various spirits (including Fifty Pounds gin), Aperol, etc. and they provide a nice bunch of snacks with the drinks (notably including Macrona almonds (instead of the usual peanuts), pizzetta, and mini-arancini.
Lots of room with tables to sit and relax, too.
Not much else to say. I checked out 4 other caffes and this one stands high...
