Exceptional dinner on a drizzly Sunday night in Orvieto. The handwritten sign caught out eye with delicious words like "snail... rabbit... pigeon." We knew we had to find here. Upon entering the austere dining room, is a warm & friendly smile from, we assume, is the owner acting host, who seated us promptly without reservation. We were served warm bread, fresh olive oil, house wine which was a freshly corked bottle of Vino Rosso 100% Sangiovese - bold & dry. We ordered the snails Orvieto-style which was served in a tomato sauce full of fennel - I don't typically care for the overwhelming flavor of fennel but in this instance the unique flavors were welcomed and as the snails were perfectly cooked, it all paired well with the bread (although I did add a lunch of salt). Next, the Primi... Minestrone cuppa & Carbanara con guancale. The soup was literally the most delicious, hearty, flavorful, chunky, unctuous soup which was only enhanced with a drizzle of olive oil. It especially hit the spot on this drizzly evening. The carbanara was silky, glistening and rich with all the flavors of fatty but crispy guancale and grated pecorino. I'll be surpassed to find one better. Lastly, the Secondi... rabbit and pigeon. I've never tried either and absolutely loved both! I picked the bones clean on both portions. Our waist said I had "good fork" which I felt was highest compliments. This is a must try while you're in Orvieto or worth a...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended by a local upon our arrival in Orvieto. We are very easy to please and enjoy most places where we dine. This restaurant was a big disappointment. We did not order bread, but it was brought to our table: 3 pieces of sliced bread and 2 bags of bread sticks. My husband ate 2 pieces of bread and I had none: we were charged $3 each for the bread. This is shameful. We asked for oil and vinegar for the bread, but didn’t receive it. My husband ordered chicken cacciatore. It was a small portion, very dry, and for 16 Euro it came with nothing else. I ordered a mixed salad and it came without any dressing. Again, we asked for oil and vinegar, this time for the salad. By the time we received it, my husband had almost finished his chicken. I also ordered the spaghetti with tomatoes and basil: the pasta was over cooked. We spent 49 Euro on this meal with 1 glass of house wine and 1 beer. Overpriced and below average food. Don’t waste your money...
Read moreThe food and the atmosphere were very good. And the service too untill we realised we had been literally cheated. The story is as follows. They put a plate of ordinary bread and industrial plastic-packaged gricini on the table, which we didn't ask for, nor did they ask whether we'd want it. That bread made it's way to the bill as euro 12!!! (3 per person). So, it was not a price for the unordered bread - it was a service charge. But when I was footing the bill I explicitly asked whether tips were included in the bill. And the lady said "no". An so I left 10 euro in tips. All in all, i was conned into leaving a total of 22 euro of tips on 150 euro bill for what I truly ordered. I believe it's a lie when you charge for smth that noone's ordered and then say that tips are not included. Otherwise the place is...
