Enoteca al Duomo — Restaurant in Orvieto

My wife and I had a delightful time at this enoteca. We asked our waiter for assistance with what we should order from the wine menu based upon our wine preferences, and he brought several bottles for us to try. We settled on a different glass for each of us and enjoyed it. The process was repeated two more times for a total of six different glasses of awesome wines, even one that wasn't offered by the glass (but he opened the bottle to try it, and which I ordered for one of my glasses). Speaking of glasses, they used really nice crystal. Total bill -- 30 Euros for six awesome glasses of wine next to the Duomo, and it included two plates of cheeses and charcuterie. The restaurant enjoys a great location and offers an appealing, thoughtfully crafted menu with some really interesting choices. The food itself is worth a visit.

Unfortunately, the experience is undermined by the service. Staff tend to be stiff and come across as condescending, which can make guests feel more judged than welcomed. A little warmth and humility would go a long way in matching the quality of the food...

Looks like a tourist trap... but it is a true local gem with a beautiful atmosphere, great service and outstanding food. We had an early lunch after Mass and were very surprised with the place.
