Breakfast / Lunch review.
They successfully created an italian-american restaurant by combining the worst of both worlds.
Coffee: Their coffee is typical Italian aka awful. The beans are bad and baristas have no idea what they are doing either. We asked for a flat white. Does that look flat to you? (see pic)
Service: Their service is really slow. Unless you ask, they will never come by to you to get your order.
Cooks are too eager to ring the bell to notify that the food is ready. This is the first time in my life I ever got annoyed by that bell. It is frustrating. I can't imagine getting dinner here as that bell would ruin the intimacy and the atmosphere.
Food: They overcook scrambled eggs to the point where they look grey instead of shiny creamy yellow.
They do not dress their side salad so you will have to suffer through a plate of bitter leafs.
The swordfish burger came drenched in mayo and balsamic. This is not a part of American cuisine one should copy.
This all comes at a near-American price point making this place one of the worst value for...
Read moreOTTO - after the remodelling, the once narrow, cramped restaurant has become an elegant restaurant. How beautiful!
The name of this place, which conveniently offers breakfast, suggests "German breakfast" - and they do indeed serve egg dishes! Wow.
That alone deserves a big thank you.
But if the scrambled eggs were served savoury and seasoned, that would be even better.
My egg tasted very, very sweet (as if as if it had been fried with sunflower oil instead of butter), and a version with onions and herbs would be great.
I know that the Palermitani are passionate about sweet food, and there are hardly any restaurants that seem to know spices...
...but maybe you can get a little more creative with your cooking here.
Otherwise, I found the service at OTTO to be very friendly, very attentive and very pleasant.
Maybe I'll come back soon with red onion and chilli peppers and have them added to my scrambled eggs... 😅😉.
Definitely a wonderful address for club sandwiches & co.
And a big compliment for the...
Read moreI'm going fours across the board for this one. It's on the touristy strip, so you'll get jostled a bit at your table, which may be skewed a bit due to the uneven cobblestone street. But that's part of the charm. The service is friendly enough and attentive. The food is great for a not-very-Sicilian-style brunch. I got poached eggs and added bacon and hollandaise (i.e. eggs benny) and my date got fried eggs with roasted tomatoes. She loved hers, but I was a little let down with my DIY situation, though I guess the menu didn't explicitly call it an Eggs Benedict, but a toast with sides. The fruit salad was refreshing, but came out with the other food and drinks (and rack of olive oils, whatever they were for) so the table got very crowded very quickly. Everything was tasty despite the plating, with the bread being a lot softer than it looked. Overall, solid brunch choice for someone looking for a break from the...
