F. I. S.H. — Restaurant in Parma

We came to this place by random, looking for a place to have lunch in Parma city center, without prior reservation. Owner was quite friendly, trying to make us feel welcomed. We order appetizer and mains. The octopus appetizer was well cooked and really delicious. Wine was also good. The main courses on the other side were ok. or below average. The fried shrimp was average. However, the pasta was bland, cold, with little seafood or sauce. The presentation of this pasta was weird, coming in sort of plastic food foil, purely for aesthetic reasons. This felt like such a waste for the environment and without looking great either. Honestly, the worst pasta I have tried in Italy, so far. Overall, not sure we would return here to eat, if ever in Parma again, and we would rather try out...

Ottima cena con le amiche: atmosfera estiva deliziosa ricreata grazie ai tavolini disposti all’esterno con candide tovaglie bianche e candela accesa quando ci si accomoda; oste e personale sorridenti e cortesi; bagno pulito e ben illuminato. Ma veniamo alla cena: appena ci si accomoda viene servito un piccolo ma gradito benvenuto (melanzane al funghetto); successivamente noi abbiamo ordinato alici fritte centrali (panatura croccante, dorata e per nulla unte) ed una portata a testa (spaghetti alla chitarra con vongole e bottarga: cottura perfetta, porzione abbondante, molte vongole ma bottarga appena percepibile); acqua in bottiglia di vetro, Vermentino ghiacciato servito nel secchiello, caffè. Tot. 40€ cad. Non dò 5 stelle per i seguenti contro:

1. era la cena del VENERDÌ, erano le 21 (non mezzanotte) e la metà delle portate da noi scelte segnate a menù era finita (calcolate che si può scegliere fra max 3/4 primi e altrettanti secondi, quindi diventa limitante)… nello specifico erano finiti i secondi ed io me ne sono andata con la voglia del tonno!
2. Avevamo scelto di accompagnare l’antipasto una bottiglia di rosè (esaurito!) quindi abbiamo optato di passare direttamente al vino per la cena: una bottiglia di Ribolla di Borgo Veritas, un semi aromatico perfetto con la maggior parte delle portate di pesce e che so essere gradito anche dalle mie amiche… anch’esso finito (abbiamo iniziato a pensare fosse uno scherzo) per cui abbiamo “ripiegato” con un Vermentino: che è stato ugualmente gradevole ma capite bene che sentirsi dire, all’inizio del weekend, che quasi tutto era esaurito per un ristorante che vuole comunque avere delle pretese di un certo tipo, anche no!
3. Il conto: 40€ a testa per una frittura centrale ed pasta ti fa un po’ storcere il naso, ma in centro a Parma ormai sotto questa cifra mangi solo una pizza! Consiglio all’oste, per la prossima volta, di offrire i caffè quando devi dire cosi tanti no ai commensali… a voi non costa niente ma i clienti se ne vanno semza l’amaro in bocca…

Nel complesso ho dato 4* e ci tornerò perché siamo state bene, come al solito ho però voluto evidenziare anche gli...

I cannot recommend FISH enough! I stayed in Parma for two nights in an Airbnb right above this restaurant. Lucky me! I had just arrived to my Airbnb from Washington , DC, jet lagged and sick, and walked in for a quick bite before bed not realizing it was about to close. Stefano kindly said he’d check with the chef and then came out saying please sit down. We chatted and I learned he had lived in NYC in the same neighborhood as me. Stefano brought me a complementary glass of wine. He’s a lovely, kind, friendly man and runs a delicious, warm, welcoming restaurant! My favorite sandwich? The panino alla cenere con julienne di seppie arrostite!!! ...
