Tuffo 13 gelateria — Restaurant in Pisa

It's very easy for people rushing from the train station to the Tower of Pisa to go in a straight line and hit up all the tourist trap gelaterias. This one is just a few minutes off that straight line, right along the river. Missing it would be a very big mistake.

This is artisanal gelato. All small batches, and clean ingredients. The milk is bio and is gotten daily from a farm right outside Pisa. They have a beer flavored gelato (couldn't try it, we're celiacs) that uses their own homemade beer! We DID try their mojito flavored gelato which is exactly the right cure for the hottest days in the summer.

If you have allergies and need vegan options: this is your place. If you are gluten free: this is your place. If clean, organic / bio foods are important to you: this is your place. There's no after taste like you get from over-sugared gelato using gums. It's just a clean feeling after great flavor.

Best ice cream I've ever had! I came to this place after seeing that they had vegan options but was not expecting such a great experience. They have several flavors to choose from (many of them vegan). I had the mango and the banana with apple flavors and had to control myself not to order seconds. You can taste the real flavor of the fruits and the quality of the ice cream. My husband is not vegan and also enjoyed the flavors he ordered, but was particularly impressed after trying the fruit flavors I ordered. Too bad we were only staying one day in Pisa; otherwise, I would have come back for more. We were served by Andrea, who was extremely friendly with us the moment we walked into his shop, making our visit an experience beyond the great ice cream we had. We came here because of the great reviews and even took a detour just to try the ice cream. First things first: the gelato is tasty and reasonably priced. There’s a wide variety of flavors, and it's easy to be tempted to try as many as possible. It may not be the best ice cream I’ve ever had, but it’s a solid 8 out of 10.

The staff encouraged us to leave a review, and I’m happy to do so — honestly and fairly. That includes a word about the service. I wasn’t quite sure whether the person who served us was trying to be humorous or a bit ironic. If that was the intention, it didn’t quite land. His manner came across as a bit smug, even though he was being extremely polite — almost overly so, to the point where it felt slightly performative.
