Al Ristoro del Moro — Restaurant in Ravello

Prime location in Ravello with gorgeous views of the Amalfi coast.

However the food has a lot to be desired for. The bread rolls (we didn’t order, it’s part of the “coverage”, 3 euros per person) are as hard as rock, it must be very old bread. One dish that we ordered — mixed seafood platter — was disappointing: the fish was dry, didn’t seem fresh; the shrimps’ veins (intestinal track containing the body waste) were not removed, so it was quite unpleasant to see, we had to remove them ourselves. Not what we expected from a restaurant in a 4 star hotel.

Among the dishes that we ordered, the grilled octopus was pretty decent in terms of texture and taste; the scialatielli pasta (originated from Amalfi) was quite delicious.

About the service, again, we expected higher progressional level from this type of restaurant. One junior staff was friendly and attentive. But one thing that hit my nerve is when I asked for WiFi password, one senior staff who speaks English took my phone away from my hands without asking, bring it to another staff (out of my eyesight) to ask him to type in the password on my phone. (Come on, this is 2023, security and privacy issues right there. Someone could be so friendly, charming you with their interesting stories and say: hey follow me on Instagram, give me your phone, I’ll type in my handle, then 10 seconds later, $3000 disappeared from you Venmo account.) It's our second time in this restaurant and the last night of our Wedding Trip (we married on Sunday the 8th of July.18) We decided to come back here Due to our jobs ( I work as an air hostess and my husband, Ross is an airline pilot). We're always travelling and this is probably our favourite restaurant in our favourate part of the world. Al Ristoro del Moro ranks as possibly the best restaurant we've ever eaten in. The views are stunning yes but the quality of the food, the freshness of the ingredients and the fish are just the best, hard to find anything better or similar in Italy or the Amalfi Coast. L'unica cosa positiva di questo ristorante è il panorama, davvero mozzafiato. Per il resto un'esperienza pessima. Il problema fondamentale sta nel fatto che il locale si presenta come ricercato e raffinato (descrizioni elaborate dei piatti nel menù, servizio che cerca di imitare ristoranti di alto livello, soprattutto prezzi molto alti, e così via), ma di fatto non lo è e i piatti sono assolutamente banali e non certo di qualità.

Prima di parlare dei piatti, però, non posso fare a meno di menzionare che, per tutta la durata del pranzo, essendo la cucina molto vicina al nostro tavolo e con la porta aperta, si sentiva chiaro e tondo lo chef urlare e bestemmiare con i suoi colleghi. Ora, la situazione era così comica che a volte una risata ci scappava anche, ma è chiaro come questo sia inaccettabile in qualsiasi locale, figuriamoci in un ristorante di (sedicente) qualità come questo.

Tornando ai piatti, trovo assurdo come si possa anche solo pensare di far pagare 18 euro un "Antipasto contadino" costituito da tre fettine di mozzarella (insapore, probabilmente comprata al supermercato), una fetta tonda di provola buttata a mo' di panetto della pizza su un paio di foglie di limone male abbrustolite (provola anch'essa insapore), e un blocco di parmigiana di melanzane anonimo. Allego una foto del piatto in questione per rendere l'idea. Abbiamo poi, sempre a 18 euro, un "Antipasto caldo di mare" costituito da un'insalata di calamari, cozze ecc. sulla cui freschezza ho avuto seri dubbi (i calamari in particolare erano gommosi e, ancora, insapori). Il piatto più ridicolo sono però certamente gli "Spaghetti con vongole e foglie di alloro": è quasi impossibile che un piatto del genere non abbia alcun sapore, eppure ci sono riusciti, non sapeva letteralmente di nulla e non sto esagerando (ah, ovviamente, l'alloro non c'era, era una banalissima pasta e vongole, fatta male per di più, al modico prezzo di €22).

Tra una bestemmia e l'altra dello chef arriva alla fine il conto, di ben €172 per aver mangiato letteralmente il nulla, o meglio, qualcosa abbiamo mangiato ma evidentemente i sapori degli ingredienti non erano inclusi nel prezzo. Letteralmente una truffa.

In conclusione, se volete assistere a un sovrapprezzato spettacolo di cabaret del personale di cucina (evidentemente troppo impegnato in questo piuttosto che nella preparazione dei piatti) mentre osservate il magnifico panorama della Costiera Amalfitana, questo è il posto che fa per voi.
