What a lovely restaurant. The vibe is so pretty and the location in beautiful Ravello couldn't be too much nicer. How sad, then, that we feel that we were completely taken advantage of. We spent 4 weeks traveling throughout Italy, in February, and the most expensive meal, by far, was at Osteria Ravello. I know its a high-end town in the summer, but what happened to us was robbery. We had great rapport with the owner and ordered wine, 3 apps and 3 entrees, two of which were the evening special - spaghetti with shrimp. The portions were good, the food tasty - all was great until we received the bill and were charged 39 euros for each of two specials! There were no items on the menu with prices similar to this, and except for a super fancy Michelin restaurant, the food is much less all over Italy. I said something to the server that the bill seemed wrong (other pastas were 20 euros at the most) and he said it was accurate because it was the evening special. I was shocked and deeply disappointed, along with feeling taken advantage of (never a good feeling). We are easy-going, don't complain, and are respectful travelers, and I don't understand how this could have happened. Just the night prior we had eaten in an elegant, high-end restaurant in Tivoli and even with a bottle of wine, we spent quite a bit less. It was highway robbery, plain and simple. I know this review won't dissuade people from going to this lovely spot, but I am writing it to warn against buying something when the price is not listed because you may, also, get taken for a ride. I am also writing this because I hope the owner, who we thought so nice, will see this and realize that he took advantage of us very kind customers. And also to let him know that he has the highest priced Osteria in...
Read moreMy partner and I came here for dinner after spending the afternoon exploring Ravello (be mindful of their hours, they close at 1500h after lunch and re-open at 1900h for dinner). It's a nice atmosphere with the majority of their tables along a small walkway so you get a nice view looking west (there are a handful of tables for two inside as well). The staff are super pleasant and friendly and speak English well. When we arrived at approx. 1930h (on a Tuesday) there were lots of empty tables, but when we left around 2045h there was a medium sized line (all waiting for tables outside since all the tables inside were empty). Most of their tables are for two people, they only have a couple of tables that can accommodate larger groups.
We got... Parmigiana di melanzane (€17) which was absolutely delicious; Scialatielli ai fruitti di mare (€23) which my partner said was very tasty; Lasagna con salsa di pomodoro, polpettine di carne, mozzarella di bufala e melanzane (€18) that came out super nice and hot and was quite filling. The only disappointing thing was their Lemonade (€4) came in a bottle and isn't something like freshly made lemonade.
Coperto is €3 each. Free WiFi is available. Overall it was an enjoyable meal and we'd...
Read moreMy wife and I were promptly seated for our 7:30pm reservation, and the waiter was quick to take our order and bring us our drinks and bread. At this point is when the evening began to go downhill.
I ordered the octopus and cuddlefish, and my wife ordered the shrimp linguine; both dishes were very mediocre for the price point, and they forgot to bring our fries. Then, our table was attacked by 3-4 bees. I confronted what appeared to be the manager first about the bees and then about the fries. When I mentioned the bees, he scoffed and started to walk away, then I called him back and said we never got our french fries. He pulled up his tablet and insisted (in a rude manner) that we never ordered french fries. My wife and I both recalled specifically adding french fries.
My wife and I got up and left without finishing our dinner mostly due to the fact bees had taken over our table, but also the pure rudeness of the staff that made us feel uncomfortable. Even though we spent about 80 euros on this dinner, we ended up just getting pizza from the friendly spot down the street.
We will not be back and would advise others to look elsewhere. There are much better places to spend your...
