Right across the street from the Roman Forum exit, we decided after all that walking we needed to sit and collect ourselves after a long tour. There are multiple workers out front who will approach and ask you to see their menu to convince you to sit and eat. This is most definitely a tourist trap restaurant so expect it to be busy and pricey. Having said that, if you're eating by the Roman Forum, you shouldn't expect anything less.
Octopus Salad - This was good with a solid portion size so no complaints there. Octopus was nice and tender with a nice "bounce" to the bite! Mixed with tomatoes, olives, and some lemon, it was a great starter to our meal. 5/5
Carbonara - It was my first carbonara in Rome and my expectations to be honest were sky high as its one of the 4 classic Roma pastas. It unfortunately did not meet my expectations. Presentation was nice coming out in a saucepan. However, the moment I laid eyes on it, I was disappointed... the sauce had curdled, and I was looking at scrambled eggs in my pasta. Pasta was cooked al dente and the taste itself was decent however the curdled sauce couldn't help me recover what I thought of the dish. 2/5
Pomodoro - The sauce was very good and pasta was al dente. Was both nicely sweet and hearty to coat all the pasta. Overall a basic dish done right. 5/5
Overall the food was good for a quick eat and the ambience although busy was nice as they have a tented outdoor area with fans and misters going to keep you cool. Seating space is very tight (which I imagine is to fit all the tourists leaving the Forum). As mentioned above, do expect to pay a premium here. With all the other solid reviews, I'll just imagine that my carbonara was an unlucky chance dish (although in my books its sacrilegious to serve a carbonara sauce...
Read moreWe visited this place today. The food was fine but the hospitality is not very up to standard. The waiter was rushing our orders. It would be great if they have to be mindful that we are tourists. We don't speak your language so we take our time to understand the menus in considering our orders. It was thesame when we had to pay our bills. He was rushing us to pay. I have to ask him twice to give us some time while we are counting our cash. We are foreigners so we are very careful in counting our cash to make sure we pay the right amount in the bill. Me and my friend counted it even twice and put a 5 euro tip on top of the amount as the waiter reiterated that the tip is not included in the bill. Though we know its not obligatory to tip in Italy and we were not happy with the waiter's attitude we still considered to give a small tip. Then we were shocked when the waiter came back and told us that we are 5 euros short. We could not reconcile how we are short as the 3 of us counted the amount twice! The waiter and his manager said it was counted by the machine. I was so upset so I gave the waiter 20 euros and just left! Along with the food, the experience, hospitality and honesty, speaks the volume of the service.
Further response: Yes dear, I was a guest. And I am sure it is Angelino ai Fori, near the Collosseo because we have pictures. I think it would just be nice if you also own up to this incident and take into consideration that you can further learn to improve...
Read moreMonumental dissapointment given the current reviews. Tourist trap is an understatement. Plus points for proximity to the colosseum, but you cannot see it from the seating area. Highly recommend walking a few more steps down the street for a better experience.
Was seated ~15 minutes prior to the lunch rush. Food and drinks were ordered, though our food (bruschetta and a margherita pizza) came out a whopping 30 minutes after ordering—many minutes after other tables sat down, ordered, and received their mains. Espresso martini was overpriced (€16) for what it was.
There is an illusion of choice if you want wine by the glass—they offer their experts to provide recommendations based off your taste profile, though when they were given this information, our waiter waived us off and handed me a glass of wine without explanation of what it even was.
Our server disappeared after taking our order. We sat with empty glasses of drinks and water for approx. 30 minutes without anyone asking for a refill. Tables surrounding us were left with dirty plates until new visitors arrived—only for the table to be barely wiped down. A couple sat next to us and waited to have their order taken for 10 minutes and left after not being served.
P.S. they will counter bad reviews by saying it is a...
