Parco archeologico del Colosseo - During my recent visit to the Parco archeologico del Colosseo in Rome, Italy, I was struck by the immense historical significance of this ancient site. As one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, the Colosseum is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Roman Empire and the remarkable engineering and architectural feats of its time. The sheer size and scale of the Colosseum were breathtaking, and I found myself marveling at the intricate details of its construction, which have stood the test of time for over two millennia. As I walked around the amphitheater, I could almost feel the echoes of the past reverberating through the walls and pillars, transporting me back in time to the days when gladiators battled for their lives in front of roaring crowds. But the Colosseum is much more than just a grand spectacle of ancient entertainment. It is also a powerful symbol of the political and social power of the Roman Empire, which used the amphitheater as a tool for consolidating its rule over conquered territories and demonstrating its might to the rest of the world. As I explored the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, I was struck by the immense amount of history that it carries with it. The site is not just a collection of ruins and artifacts, but a living record of the people and events that shaped the course of human history. Overall, my visit to the Parco archeologico del Colosseo was a truly inspiring and awe-inspiring experience. It's hard to describe in words the profound sense of history and culture that one can feel when standing in the shadow of such an iconic symbol of the past. But for anyone with an interest in history, art, or architecture, the Colosseum is an absolute must-visit destination that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

We booked the full experience ticket. Getting into the colosseum was super quick as there's no queue if you have the full experience ticket (make sure you go through the guided tour gate though). There's was no information given to us about how we find our tour so we had to ask a bit. Once we're were with our tour group it was all very clear. I wasn't aware that you can pre-purchase audio guides of the underground. I don't think anyone one in our group did this in advance as it would have been super handy. The chaperone was very good to us in explaining a bit about the colosseum and made it easier for us to imagine for details of the underground in particular about where the animals and gladiators were located. We had ample time to explore too. With the underground you also get entry to the arena floor to walk the perimeter and then you get ample time to take a seat and soak up the atmosphere of the arena floor. Overall the colosseum is a wonder you have to experience

An incredible place to visit, full of history and one of the must see sites in Rome. The site includes the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill, covering some of the most important monuments of Ancient Rome. Walking through the ruins gives you a sense of the city’s grandeur over 2,000 years ago. The Colosseum itself, completed in 80 AD, is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built, once holding up to 50,000–80,000 spectators for gladiatorial games and public spectacles. The Roman Forum was the heart of political, religious, and social life, while the Palatine Hill is where Rome’s emperors built their palaces. Practical tip: Tickets cover all three areas, and it’s worth booking in advance as it gets extremely busy. Expect to spend at least 3–4 hours if you want to explore properly. Overall, it’s a nice site that combines history, culture, and architecture truly one of the highlights of Rome.

Exploring the Colosseum is like stepping into a time machine that takes you back to the heart of ancient Rome. We’ve often helped our guests plan their visit, and it’s always exciting to see how much they enjoy this iconic landmark.

One tip we always share: book your tickets in advance! The lines can be long, and having your entry sorted saves you time and lets you focus on enjoying the experience. Early morning or late afternoon visits are ideal, as the light is softer, making the views even more spectacular.

When inside, take your time to walk around the arena floor if you have access. It offers a unique perspective—you can imagine what it must have been like for the gladiators standing there, facing the roaring crowd. Don’t miss the underground level either; it’s fascinating to see where animals and fighters were prepared before being brought up to the arena.

For families, it’s a great idea to have a guided tour. Kids love the stories about ancient Rome, and a good guide can make the history come alive in a way that’s engaging and fun.

If you plan your day right, combine your visit with a stroll through the nearby Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. They’re included in most tickets and give you a complete picture of what life in ancient Rome was like.

Every time we hear back from guests after their visit, they’re amazed by how much they’ve learned and experienced. It’s more than just a monument—it’s a journey through history you’ll...
