I selected the Nerva hotel after searching several review sites and looking for someone centrally located and smaller boutique style for my 3 night stay as a solo travel first visit to Rome.
Check-in/Staff Even before arriving their staff helped with suggestions by emails, answering various questions and making bookings for airport transfers and several private tours of Rome. I arrived later afternoon, and was greeted by the happiest person and biggest smile by Charlotte at the front desk. Check in was painless, with explanation of a few things such as breakfast time
Room: My room was a singles room as I am a solo traveler. It is small but cozy and comfortable single bed. There is a closet with plenty of hangers, a small mini bar, hair dryer and small safe with an actual key rather than a Digital lock. There is a single seat and small table. Bed was comfortable and linens soft. Bathroom is very small especially for taller people (I’m 6’4). But the shower had enough space. They do have soaps for the bathroom and shower included, as well as large towel. There is adequate lighting and the ventilation/AC was fine. There was a single window that opened into a small inner courtyard. Instead of a key card you use a key to activate the power for the room and it turns off when you leave. My only small issues with the room is it has only a single power outlet located in the bathroom which made it harder to charge a laptop while using it, or charge multiple devices. Wi-Fi speed is adequate but not stellar but fine for everyday use. I would have liked to see a bit larger table next to the chair to be able to put a laptop on. The hotel has an elevator, but my room was only 1 story up with the stairs right by the entrance.
Breakfast/Food I had the included breakfast each morning and they have a nice selection with table service in their small dining area. It was nice to sit in the morning with the windows open sipping tea and having breakfast. All the selections I had were good, and service was prompt, efficient and very friendly. They have drinks available in the evening in the lounge area, but no food during the day or at night, just peanuts/chips with the drinks. The minibar in the room has a few small snacks and beverages, but they are very small size. It was easier to get larger drinks at convenience stores just around the corner. The staff have a list of recommended restaurants in different areas for lunch or dinner and can help with reservations. I highly recommend getting them to reserve if it’s weekend as most places are very busy.
Location The location is about as central as you can get in Rome. I was able to walk to all the major attractions, and there were plenty of restaurants and stores within a few blocks. The hotel is on a back side street, but there were plenty of people walking at night so I never felt unsafe even late at night, although I was always wary of pickpockets. The tours arranged by the hotel were excellent, and very informative.
Overall a very enjoyable stay and would definitely stay again if I...
Read moreMy husband and I made a reservation to stay at the Hotel Nerva for 6 nights, we received a confirmation of our reservation from the hotel and within 24 hours of making the reservation the full amount for our stay showed up as a pending charge on our credit card so we thought all was well with our reservation. Unfortunately this was not the case. So after a 10 hour flight from the US we went to the hotel where we were told that they had canceled our reservation because our credit card company would not confirm that our credit card was good. The young lady at the front desk was extremely rude saying that she had emailed us about this problem but when we told her that we had not received any emails she said that there must be problems with our ISP which I found a little bit hard to believe since did not have any problems with emails from anyone else. We also asked why, when she could not contact us by email, did she not telephone us to which she said that they did not have our telephone number. This was a blatant lie as the hotel's online reservation form requires that you enter a telephone number. She then called the manager to the front desk but he was also very rude and basically told us it was our fault but that he did have a room that he could put us in if we would like. Now this is where things get really hinky because the reservation we had made was for 6 nights for a total cost of Euro 1571.30 but when the girl at the front desk totaled up the charges for the new room they amounted to Euro 2964.00. We ended up taking the new room but only stayed for one night and checked into a different hotel the next morning. Then when we checked out the next morning they gave us a very hard time about refunding our money saying it was a very difficult process and tried to convince us to stay by telling us that the girl the day before had made a mistake and she should have only charged us Euro 1300. I don't know about anyone else but when someone makes a Euro 1600 mistake on my bill it doesn't inspire confidence in me. On top of all these problems the room setup was also very weird. We had to go out of the main part of the hotel go up the street past a couple of businesses then turn into an alley and about 100 feet up the alley is a door with a buzzer which is opened by the front desk person and into a hallway with 3 or 4 guest rooms off of it. I felt this was not very secure as there are no closed circuit cameras for the desk person to see who they are admitting, and the alley itself was quite dark at night. And the breakfast that was supposed to be included in the price of our room, well it was definetly nothing to write home about - my husband and I each got a croissant and a...
Read moreWe stayed at the Cavour location after being moved prior to arriving from the other location. Location is ok, on the edge of the highlights (walking distance for us) and close to main termini station and metro. It all looks very polished and pretty but functionality and comfort was terrible particularly given we were booked for 5 nights.
The bed was extremely uncomfortable with two big ruts and a high point down the middle. It was held up by blocks of wood down the middle and light weight slats that fell out. The sheet did not fit so kept pulling back exposing the mattress (yuck).
The plaster walls are extremely thin so you hear everything through them inlcuding people coming and going (have to slam your door to close it), talking, turning the shower on in the next room. There is also a water pump or some such in the wall/ ceiling cavity that turned on (and loudly whirred) every time someone turned a tap or flushed the toilet in our area.
The shower overflowed due to the type of drain they have installed (solution for them was to just take it out), there was no hot water one morning and the toilet seat/lid was broken. (all recently revovated).
We seem to be over the metro so we could her rumbling under us from the third floor when trains went by - not that big of a problem compared to the rest.
Funcitonality did not exist - we booked for a triple room, had a portable small single bougt in next to the king - there was then no space in the room. There was no where to put your things including toiletries in the bathroom.
There was no safe or fridge (not advertised to have but almost minimum esp in heat of rome).
Breakfast was stingy and no variety - and again, given we had booked a triple room - there were only tables and space for two people to sit.
Service tried to be friendly by two people, others were nonchalant.
This could be ok for a night or 2 at the most- it was very uncomfortable for us...
