We decided to venture into the Trastevere neighborhood and came across this restaurant that was packed with people - the food looked good from what we saw of those seated outside. We took an outdoor seat, but before the waitress came, we opted to move indoors since it was cooler inside. We were told to sit down wherever by the woman who became our "waitress" - although she didn't do any waiting on us. She took over 10 minutes to bring our menus and didn't say a word as she set them down. She came to the table next to ours multiple times while we were clearly ready to order and ignored us and walked away, even as I asked if we could order. She didn't come back for 10 more minutes. At this point, we were thirsty and hungry and decided to leave. On our way out, we told the waitress "thank you" (condescendingly) and she said "gratzi" and laughed as she walked away from us. My boyfriend wouldn't have it - so he waited for her to return to the front and confronted her. He asked her if it was OK to leave us waiting over 20 minutes and ignore us. She pretended like she didn't know any English and another worker "translated" telling us that the waitress didn't know if we were coming or going. It was 1:30pm when we arrived - she had told us to sit down, it was her section and she gave us menus - she didn't just clock in! She was so rude we will never recommend this place...
Read moreCasetta di Trastevere, nestled in the heart of Rome's picturesque Trastevere neighborhood, boasts an excellent location in a touristic hotspot. The neighborhood's charming ambiance was a highlight, offering a unique blend of local and touristic flair.
Regarding the food, unfortunately, it failed to meet expectations. The pasta, which seemed reminiscent of store-bought Barilla, lacked the homemade quality one might anticipate in such a traditional setting. The sauce was mediocre, adding to the sense of disappointment.
In addition, the refusal to offer complimentary tap water was an unexpected letdown. While the service was acceptable, with staff members apologizing for the water policy, it still felt a bit inhospitable in a city known for its warmth and hospitality.
Moreover, the prices seemed rather high considering the quality of the food. Additionally, a few of our glasses were not as clean as one would expect from a restaurant in this area.
The seating options, both inside and on the porch or even in the middle of the square, provide a variety of experiences for guests, which is a definite plus point. However, this alone could not compensate for the shortcomings.
In summary, while the location and setting are undeniably appealing, from a culinary perspective, Casetta di Trastevere felt more like a tourist trap. Here's to hoping they up...
Read moreAfter seeing many positive reviews of this place, we decided to make dinner reservations on their website and eat here for our first night in Rome.
We ordered Bruschetta, Lasagna, and Rigatoni Cacio e Pepe. Unfortunately, the Bruschetta given to me came with a little green caterpillar that I noticed running across my plate after I finished the bruschetta. I had even shown this to the host and was provided a hollow apology as he so eagerly charged us full price for two pieces of overpriced Bruschetta. While this wasn’t the only issue. When the Cacio e Pepe arrived at the table, it was cold. Not only cold, but tasted horrid. We didn’t finish more than two bites.
To continue the fun; we were shoved into such a tight space that in order for my boyfriend to get up from his seat, we had to pick up the entire table. Throughout the dinner our seats were rubbing against the neighbors behind us, so every movement would shake you while attempting to eat your meal.
Please save your money and future discomfort, and provide your business to many of the other options in the area. This place single handedly started my Rome trip in the gutter.
