Cave Canem trattoria - pizzeria a Trastevere — Restaurant in Rome

I regret to share my recent disappointing experience at Cave Canem Trattoria. The quality of the Ravioli with Spinach dish I ordered was extremely poor and left much to be desired.

Upon receiving the dish, I was surprised to find that there was no sauce accompanying the ravioli. What I received was a plain plate of boiled ravioli with a mere sprinkle of parmesan cheese on top. The lack of sauce significantly impacted the taste and enjoyment of the meal. (Apparently the menu mentions that there will be no sauce but what??? Ravioli with no sauce?)

Moreover, the service we received was equally disappointing. Despite numerous available tables, we had to endure an unnecessarily long wait before being seated. The waiter assigned to our table, who also happened to be the cashier as well, exhibited a concerning lack of attentiveness throughout our visit. Requests for assistance or inquiries about the meal were met with indifference, adding further frustration to an already unsatisfactory dining experience.

While the Carbonara was acceptable, I must strongly advise against ordering the Ravioli. The aftertaste was unpleasant, leaving a truly horrendous impression.

I urge future patrons to thoroughly review the menu before ordering to avoid the disappointment I experienced with the Ravioli dish. It's unfortunate that such a dish could detract from an otherwise pleasant...

Dinner at Cave Canem in Trastevere is nothing short of unforgettable. The moment I took the first bite of their trippa alla romana I tasted a fairytale of flavors! I genuinely wasn’t prepared for how good it would be. Braised to perfection in a rich tomato sauce, the tripe was soft without losing structure, infused with just the right amount of mint to lift the dish into something truly special. Comforting, bold, and deeply Roman.

We also had the abbacchio, I knew I was in for something special. Perfectly roasted, the lamb was incredibly tender—falling off the bone yet still juicy, with a crisp, golden skin that carried all the deep, savory flavors of the Roman countryside. It had that earthy, herby richness that lingers on your palate and stays with you long after the meal. And it was perfectly paired with crispy delicious potatoes!

The vibe at Cave Canem matches the food—unpretentious, warm, and filled with the kind of character you only find in Trastevere. This is the kind of place you dream about discovering when you come to Rome. If you're looking for a meal that captures the heart and soul of Roman...

Came here 7 years after our first trip to Rome with high expectations. The first time we came we tried their signature Cavecanem pasta and it was so amazing we tried to replicate it when we went back home. It has since become a staple in our family. We were hoping to relive the experience only to find out they no longer had the same pasta dish. Still, we ordered other items with an open mind with the thought that the food would be still be good.
